Hi Guys,

So the iPad Pro screen itself is Scratch Resistant ( I know it is not Scratch Proof) but it can resist normal scratches. So is it required to put any sort of screen protection on the iPad Pro ?

I would like to describe my case and situation maybe that can help you guys advise me ? First of all I am using an Apple Smart Folio Cover (Not the Keyboard Cover Just the normal Cover) secondly I do not take my iPad Pro outside of my House. I take good care of my iPad Pro by keeping it clean and cleaning it regularly. So do I need any sort of protection on the screen of my iPad with particularly in respect to my case scenario ?

If the answer is yes, which screen protector gives the more natural feeling of not applying anything, which also maintains the colour Brightness and Vividness of the iPad Pro Display and Colours ? Normal Screen Protector Films or Tempered Glass ?

Which is the best Tempered Glass out there ? which offers very good quality ? Doesn't matter if it is also a little expensive ?

Last question if going forward if I decide to remove the tempered glass will it leave any signs any residue of the tempered glass or film on the screen of the iPad Pro ?

Please advise guys

Up to your personal preference, I always put a screen protector on my phones, I have never put one on an iPad. And I have never had scratch issues on an iPad. Your use case could be different though.

I've never had a screen protector on an iPad, as far as I can remember. No scratches to this point. I'm retiring a 2nd gen Pro that I could pass off as new.

My use case is similar but I do sometimes take it on the go, but usually around the house usage with a smart cover or now folio case.

Very often when I ask this question, people tell me it is upto you  and I know that ! But I wanted to know if my current usage pattern and habit indicates something, what does that look like ? should I apply it for not ?

No, since you already have a cover.

But with my kind of usage, how likely do you think are there any chances of getting a scratch ? I am not worried so much about Breakage or Screen Crack ! I am worried about debris and dust causing Scratches. But with an Apple Smart Cover do you think I am covered on that part aswell ? what about till the time the screen is exposed when I am using it or doing something on the screen ?

As long as you don't drop things often, you should be fine.

If it doesn’t go out of the house I say no. I have none on my 12.9 and it hardly leaves the house.

And should it not be a problem ? When the device is being used and the Apple Cover being folded for use, can it not cause any scratches with even normal usage or touching and swiping on the screen ? Just thinking extreme ?

You have the lowest risk use case aside from just not using it at all. Unless your house has a sandbox in every room just relax.

If you keep asking the same question you'll keep getting the same answers. People using a protector will reply that you need one, but actually never know if they would have gotten a scratch. People not using one will tell you not to use one.

If you have young children who use the device, then it might be a good idea. If not, then meh. Do whatever feels right.

I stopped putting screen protectors on my phone after moving to the X. For me, that’s worked out. I still use a case.

When my kids were younger, we put protectors on our iPads. Especially since they used some learning games that had accessories, like cars they could drive over a virtual road.

I don’t have any plans for putting a screen protector on my 2020 iPad Pro. I have a case ordered for it but still no screen protection coming with that.

Actually I am a little paranoid about what happens till the time I have my screen exposed and the Apple Cover Folded up because I have to use the screen ?

It's never "required," it's personal choice. Apple does not make any recommendations in favor of (or against) the use of screen protectors.

What about till the time the Apple Cover is Folded and the screen is exposed for using. What about that much time ?
That's called "use." It's expected that when you use things they may show signs of that use. If you don't use things then they don't get damaged, but you also don't have the benefit of their use.

Are you worried that scratches will harm the resale value of your iPad? The scratches would have to be worse than average for that to happen. In the meantime, you will have spent money on a screen protector (or several) - I'd guess that the cost of that screen protector will be greater than the money gained at resale time by having a "perfect" display.

Are you interested in a screen protector in order to avoid cracks in the screen? In my experience screen protectors are only somewhat effective - it might prevent breakage when the impact force is smaller, but many impacts are strong enough to break both the protector and the screen.

I've never had a screen protector on my iPhones and iPad (or Apple Watches, for that matter). I've never had a significant issue with scratches, nor have I cracked a display. Yes, small scratches have happened, but that doesn't bother me. However, accidents do happen. Whether I've been careful or lucky is hard to know.

I can only speak for my use. But it’s used at home. I’m a clean person lol swiping and stuff hasn’t resulted in scratches in the year and a half of use. I don’t like having another layer to the screen.

I am worried that because of getting scratches my joy of watching images, Picture, Video will be hampered on an extraordinary Screen with Magnificent Display which will ruin my experience.

No not much for the crack, but as I said but to stop the screen from having any kind of scratches which ruin my viewing experience.

To me it's like having a couch protected by plastic. At the end you may have a couch that's perfectly clean but the cushions will still be worn out.. but meanwhile you've been sitting on plastic all this time.

Down the road you'll wind up with an obsolete iPad that has a perfect screen.

The type of minor scratches (still unlikely) that you might accumulate would likely be impossible to see during use. I just pulled out 2 iPad Minis that my children used for 3-4 years. They both have very minor scratches that are visible only under perfect conditions in bright lighting, when perfectly clean, held at the perfect angle, with the screen turned off. You'd never see any of this during use. And remember, they were young children so it was pretty much a worst-case.

It's obvious that everyone will say that it depends on you, coz it does depend on your choice, usage, and degree of clumsiness.

If you feel you are clumsy, surely have a screen protector. In my experience, I have found brands like Paperlike, Spigen, ESR, iCarez perform really well.

However, in regular usage, especially when you have a dependable cover and the iPad is not frequently traveling along with you, it can be skipped.

And if you clean it regularly by right methods, dirt and debris are not that big an issue. Additionally, you can't really keep things new forever, no matter how careful you are.

I have a folio cover on my iPad as well and got a screen protector. Even if you are careful, its bound to come into contact with some item that might scratch it. I've already dropped my iPad twice and the cover has fallen open exposing the screen to the floor.

Strange Analogy ! :) Obsolete iPad? but how ? Didn't get that ?

You will inevitably use the screen protector during the lifetime of the device. At some point the device will have outlived its usefulness for performance or other factors. It'll be obsolete to you for some reason and you'll replace it. You'll then remove the screen protector to reveal a perfect screen and it won't matter a bit.

On phones I always used a glass protector.. ipad's I purchase cheap plastic ones off ebay/amazon just because it is always in a case and the screen gets covered by it. So just a cheap plastic sheet on the screen is more then fine for being home and in the office. Personal choice obviously.

Plastic protectors will scratch much more easily than glass, even with the oleophobic coating. At that point you're either frequently replacing them or looking at scratched plastic all the time.

Actually when I say Screen Protector I am talking about Tempered Glass and not a Plastic Film. So I may also remove it depending on my experience and feel of use at that moment :) And I will always have an pristine screen back again. I loathe Plastic Films Tempered Glass is the only way to go if someone wants a screen protection on the iPad.
