My last bit of hope was for the SE Plus to be announced in April (that was the rumor). Well, it was speculated by numerous sources that the SE Plus will be a 6.1” punch hole design. The only issue is it won’t be out until 2023. The iPhone 11 lcd somehow bothers my head just like the oled models (dithering?) so now I’m in a bad spot with an aging and cracked 8+. It looks like my only option is the current SE with a smart battery case, but that’s a lot of money for something I don’t even want. Could be forced to go back to Android.

Anyone else following the new SE Plus? I know I wouldn’t be if I could use any of the IPhone 12 models, so I’m sure interest is extremely minor on here.

The Iphone SE 2 is a good solid phone Tony, i know its smaller than the 8+, but its great to use and the battery is OK if you are a light/moderate user. There are rumours that the SE2 will be refreshed next year (same design, but new internals), so this is another option for you.

I've got zero interest in the SE 2. It's too small and battery would be an issue for me. My aging 7 plus is still hanging in there but it's third battery isn't and with covid restrictions I've not been able to secure another new battery.

Like you I was holding out for the rumoured SE Plus but that is a bust. I've considered caving in and getting an 11 but this late in the cycle I only want to pay refurb prices and the Apple UK store never has stock. I'm really not keen on the 11 design and Apples fit and finish is so poor with the glass sandwich in a curved frame.

There really isn't anything viable in the Android flagship field that doesn't have OLED with PWM sadly. Pretty depressing options.

Do you guys have swappa over there? I highly recommend it.

If I have to go to android, I’m going to pick up a budget ($250ish) Motorola phone. Stock android, the best battery life on ANY phone (g power series) and it will last me 2 years. My 8+ is still working, but the crack on the back is getting larger and I’m bored of it.

I’m unsure if the se 2 would even work for my eyes, and how small it is. If it did work, I would need an iPhone 8 battery case from day 1, so that adds $100 to a phone I already don’t really want. Very gutted as you English would say lol.

No swappa but we have similar sites. But I'm not looking for a used device. Apple refurbs are basically brand new and certified with the manafactuer so I'm OK with this.

I'm also bored of the 7 Plus and know I'm missing out on having the latest, speedy tech. If I could get a 12 body with LCD I'd be made up.

Having a look at Motorola now you've mentioned it....

Moto phones are super cheap, and they run stock android just like a pixel. The only issue is you only get 1 main android update from them, so when you buy one it’s basically good for 2-3 years max. But for $250, you can’t lose. Check the g9 power.

As person who owned Moto G since first generation. I do not really recommend Moto.

They are super late in terms of software updates and Moto G in general feel underpowered.

Even with Moto G8 Power, it feels slower than iPhone 7. However, you get all day battery life and higher resolution display. For media consumption, it is great. For daily driver, it is not.

The g power is most definitely underpowered, but it’s made for someone who needs ridiculous battery life. It will always be months behind on updates, but for $250 that’s what you get.

Yes. Thing has improved somewhat. I still remember Moto G1, G2 even to Moto G5 was very bad. Constant lagging.

I actually brought every generation of Moto G until G8 Power. I use G8 exclusive for media consumption while I am out.

I love my iPhone, but battery life is not great.

I would love an SEPlus as well but I can't wait that long. I'm still holding to my 6s Plus and like you I'm not interested on the current SE, too small.
I bought the 11 when it came out and I returned it, I didn't like Face ID . If the 13 comes with Touch ID I will definitely get it.
If it doesn't not sure my phone will last another two years, I doubt it , I don't know what I will get. I was thinking an iPhone 8 but there isn't any refurbished on the apple store and other sites like music magpie etc.. are second hand phones and I don't want that either

Battery isnt biggest priority, but it needs to last all day with heavy use. A large LCD and stereo speakers is a must. Not alot of choice in the Android space as the usually forgo the stereo speakers.

One solid lcd android I have been looking at is the zenfone series

I’m glad you made this thread. I’m getting close to pulling the trigger on an iPhone SE after hearing this news, and have one in my cart about to checkout.

I almost looked at one in the mall earlier but I arrived too late to be able to go inside of an Apple Store. Honestly my only concern is that I don’t want to return another iPhone if I don’t end up liking it enough to get rid of my 8+. I suppose the only way is to try it since I really want a new phone. Having a better display may be enough to make me happy with it to hold me over.

My main holdup with the current SE is that it’s a year old, and while that probably doesn’t matter to the average buyer it still feels like slightly older technology whereas if it was refreshed this year (even if it doesn’t need to be) it would be a little more exciting. If iPhone 13 solves PWM that would be great news, but would also make me feel a little dumb for having purchased an iPhone SE to use for five months.

I was over getting a new iPhone this generation but I would admittedly consider any iPhone 12 model, including the Mini, if there was a workaround for PWM.

The 2020 SE is a downgrade from the 8 Plus -in my opinion-.
You wont notice any significant speed improvement and the screen is inferior - lower res.
Color and contrast are both noticeably improved in my experience. It’s a trade-off but might be worth it for the smaller size, which may be exactly what I needed since I’m trying to reduce my reliance on my phone.

I did end up ordering an iPhone SE and feel good about it right now, but I don’t enjoy returning iPhones if it doesn’t work out.

The main and selfie camera on the SE2020 also takes better images than the 8 Plus (especially in terms of exposure and HDR), due to A13's computational photography. The 8 Plus obviously has the telephoto lens though.

They both have 3gb of ram, but won’t the se2 have a few more years of updates? I’m curious how that will work out. Would they stop updating the 8+, yet give the se2 another 2 years?

Did you pay retail for a 128gb? I’m close to ordering one myself, but I would also need an apple battery case so that adds $100

I assume it’s the same camera as iPhone XR, which is not quite as good as iPhone 11 (and especially not at the level of iPhone 12) but definitely a step-up. In retrospect I don’t use the telephoto lens on the 8+ often, and this is also significantly improved on newer devices.

I’ll consider it a test for two weeks and see how it goes. It is amazing how consumers get a better camera and processor for $399, the 8+ was $799.

I did the Apple Card Monthly Installments for a 64GB.

I had considered 128GB but I figure I’ll hopefully be upgrading it within a year or two. I have over 15GB remaining on my 64GB 8+ so I didn’t feel I needed the extra storage even if it’s a better value.

Good deal. I might order one myself, but now that I am looking I can NOT find an Apple 8 battery case anywhere. I can only find the 7, and that isn’t compatible with the se2.
