as posted earlier, I had the looping pineapple logo problem. Heres the solution:


Restore your iphone using iTunes to the OFFICIAL 2.0 FIRMWARE (yeah, thats right). Unlike what the guide says, this FINALLY helped me unlock my phone without any trouble.

Restoring to 2.0 should bring your iPhone to the recovery mode (the one with the cable and iTunes). Quit iTunes, run PwnageTool 2.0, Simple Mode, everything same. It will ask you to switch off your phone after which you can easily follow the on-screen instructions to put the iphone into DFU mode. Its simple really, no timing or anything (the DFU mode is just hyped IMO)

Quit Pwnage, start iTunes, option-restore using the custom ipsw on your desktop, after that, dont touch the phone or the mac. EVERYTHING is automatic. You dont need to quit anything or do any stuff.

Finally, you end up with a 2.0 unlocked iPhone.

Hope this helps everyone with unlocking problems.

i did those steps and my phone has been showing the pineapple logo still for over 45 minutes.

how long is it supposed to take to restore after itunes says it'll restart the iphone?
 
shouldnt take 45 mins... try waiting for some more time, else restart the phone. If that does not work, your best bet is to start from step one.
 
i tried this. totally FVCKED my phone. can't do anything now. can't upgrade, can't downgrade, nada! been trying to fix it for nearly 4 f-in hours.
 
well, i tried it on 4 1gen iPhones and all got upgraded perfectly. Anyways, what seems to be the problem you are facing? You didnt mention that
 
on the pawnage tools, keep sayin i has fail, what happen to those things?i nver figure it out
 
i'm getting a 1604 error and my iphone shows the itunes icon and the usb end (not the 30pin connector). i've tried downgrading to 7.5 and 1.1.4, tried doing the 'expert' way, tried ziphone, tried switching usb connections, tried downloading everything all over again. nothing works.
if i downgrade using itunes 7.5 and 1.1.4, i no longer get the 1604 error, instead i get '20', but i still cannot proceed any further. ziphone doesn't recognize the phone and pwnage puts me right back to where i started with the 1604 error.
so my phone is totally bricked because of this app. i should have left it with ziphone the way it was which was perfect.

pwnage tool 2.0 FTW

I was running firmware 1.1.4 unlocked with ziphone. I upgraded yesterday with no problem to firmware 2.0. Make sure that you enter DFU mode in Pwnage tool 2.0 before trying to restore. At first I was getting error(6) unknown error in Itunes.
 
finally got it to work after spending hours all day trying different methods. seems like the pwnagetool software i was using didn't work properly because i downloaded it on my PC first and then transferred it onto my mac. ended up downloading directly from my mac and did all the steps again and it finally went through.
 
you can try deleting the cache and any files in the Device Support Directory. Then, reboot your mac and try once again the way I mentioned at the top of this thread with pwnagetool 2.0.

I got the 1600 error lots of times but it mysteriously dissappeared after I rebooted and deleted the files. So, theres no straightforward way to this. iTunes is extremely temperamental...
 
where is the custom firmware deposited ?

I've gone through the process right up to the point where you close pwnage.
But, I can see no custom firmware on my desktop!

Where is t?
How do I find it?

What is it called?
 
yes, thats another I want to mention. Dont download the pwngae tool on a windows machine first. If you get two icons after downloading the tool (2.0) (the other one named something like _macos), then theres something wrong.

Download directly to a mac. coz unzipping of the rar is different in mac compared to a windows machine.

you sure you clicked on YES when pwnage asks you whether you want to create the custom IPSW on the desktop??? If that doesnt work, try choosing a different location

I got all the way up to this step. The custom ipsw is on my desktop, but I didn't see the option as to where to select to restore from that? So I did the whole pwnage thing, got back into itunes, and ended up with my iphone exactly the same as it was when I started. haha.

What am I doing wrong?
 
Nevermind! Jailbroken. :)


Didn't realize I had to hold down option and click restore.
 
I cannot get this to work.

I'm putting the phone into recovery mode, hitting option + restore and selecting the custom firmware, but I keep getting an error message from iTunes saying the phone cannot be restored, error #5 I believe.

Make sure that you quit the pwnage tool after you have made your custom .IPSW file otherwise you will keep getting that error. I did this morning, and after trying around 3-4 times, forgot that I had the pwnage tool running on the dock.. after I closed it and ran the restore process again it worked straight away. Must be something to do with the files that are needed by iTunes that are still in use or being modified by the pwnage tool when trying to upload the custom firmware.

dont put it in normal recovery mode.. you hve to put the iphone in DFU mode to restore... And also remember to quit pwnage tool once it tellls you to use iTunes to restore the iphone... You shouldnt have any errors then

Silly me.

I did actually press yes, but out of old habits, I had launched Pwnage from the command line.

So, the custom firmware wasn't created on the desktop.
Actually, I never found it in the end.

I did things by the book in the end, it have successfully gotten 3 iphones up and running.
I'm having a bitch of a time with number 4 though.
It's doing a loop between the apple logo and a "connect me to iTunes" screen.
iTunes refuses to restore it: error 6.
So, I'm trying all the error 6 remedies I can find.

I'm gonna hammer away at that one for a while. Might ask for help a bit later on it if I pull too much hair.
 
removal of error 6 can be tried by deleting any file in the Library>iTunes>Device Support

Thanks John..

Now putting the phone into DFU that's where I hold the home + sleep button for about 10 seconds then release the sleep button when the apple logo appears?
