PwnageTool 3.0 is out for iPhone 2G and 3G.
Go to http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ and check the download links...

There is not a jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS yet, that may take weeks/months. PwnageTool is for Intel-based Mac users (QuickPwn for Mac and Windows will come a little later).

Detailed INSTRUCTIONS and FAQs are here: http://bit.ly/d8Yfq. Read them carefully.

Update: redsn0w is now available for Windows and Mac users (similar to QuickPwn). Jailbreaks and unlocks all iPhone/iTouchs except the 3GS. http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/126908912/redsn0w-in-june

yeah, does this come with windows too? or just mac at present? does it come pre-packed with the unlocked software?

i dont see anything about that?

If you click on the Offical Torrents link you will be presented with a page where you will see the latest Pwnage Tool:

PwnageTool 3.0 is a Mac based iPhone firmware creation tool for creating custom ipsw/firmware for the 1st gen iPod Touch, iPhone and iPhone 3G. This version supports the 3.0 firmware from Apple. For full details (which are often updated) visit the iphone DevTeam blog. http://blog.iphone-dev.org

The blog post will (presumably) be updated shortly.

does it to the 3GS?

NO. The Dev-team doesn't have a timetable for that yet:

"P.S. For the new iPhone 3GS, please don’t expect periodic updates about any progress we have or don’t have. Nothing gives Apple the upper hand like someone tweeting or blogging partial hack results. That’s not how cat & mouse is played :) That’s how the cat gets fed."

Yeah, for now, Mac OS X only. Windows will probably have to wait a couple/few more hours for the QuickPwn version or, wait until someone with a Mac Pwns a custom .ipsw and uploads it (which is 99.9% likely to happen within the next 30 - 60 min.).

Will this release allow me to update my sim unlocked 2G iPhone (via Pwnage tool, not using yellowsnow etc) to 3.0?

anyone tried it yet?

just so people know: this is for 3g iphone only (at the moment), and ultrasn0w isn't out yet, so if you depend on yellowsnow for an unlocked phone, don't update yet.

From the iphone dev blog:

"SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 3.0 using iTunes and then use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to jailbreak your phone.

iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.

iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.

iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)

Sorry, no support at this time within PwnageTool, use Redsn0w for an earlier (pre 3.0) firmware release instead."

So I am a quickpwn user, but seeing as it isn't out yet I'm going to use pwnage tool.

I did all the steps and it's asking me to restore with it in iTunes. So does this mean it does a complete restore to the custom .ipsw and I have to re-sync everything or can you option click on update and update to the custom .ipsw.

I don't want to have to re-sync everything again.

Okay, I'm new at this torrent thing. I've clicked on "download torrent" to get the tool but it just downloads a small file to my desktop and my mac asks for an application to open it with.

What do I do with this?
