I set up pics in folders on the desktop. All folders in one main folder.

I sync that main folder in iTunes. It keeps the subfolder name on the iPad and the pics remain in their subfolder.

The iPad supports folders (directories), but not nested folders (subdirectories). For example, I had these folders of photos on my WIN7 laptop:

C:\Japan/Kyoto
C:\Japan/Tokyo
C:\Japan/Hiroshima
C:\Motorcycles
C:\Colorado

When I synced my iPad, it created separate albums for motorcycles and Colorado, but it took the folders for Kyoto, Tokyo and Hiroshima and lumped them into one album called Japan. (This is genius?)

What I ended up doing was getting ridding of all my subdirectories:

C:\Kyoto
C:\Tokyo
C:\Hiroshima
C:\Motorcycles
C:\Colorado

That gave me individual directories for each album. Subdirectories may work when syncing the iPad with a Mac though.

Agree and familiar with what you are saying, but there is no way to create or add photos to existing folders/albums/etc. directly from a Camera Connection Kit import while working on the iPad directly.

I use mine for photography.

Things to consider.

1. low storage capacity

2. Hard to determine if you have a very sharp photo. The iPad resizes the image you see and doesn't leave enough pixels to make a critical determination if the image is sharp enough to print.

3. Currently no way to download backup to an independent external HD for MAC. Delkin list a device to do this in Windows. This is such a natural that I'm imagine it won't be long before you can do this with a MAC.

What it does well.

Stores both jpeg and raw images so you can transfer to your computer.

Screen seems well calibrated color wise.

Large view of photo. Much better to judge images quality than any hand held photo storage device. I have owned an Epson and a Giga Vue pro. This is a much better device for field work.

Once I am done wth post processing, I upload the client's photos to the iPad. I call the client up and swing by their house or a meeting spot and show them the slideshow with music.

I proof in person because I want to see their reaction and emotions. I can do some major up-sales here.

You can use Zosh for contract signatures. Once they sign, you can email it to them on the spot.

Backup before delete! CF or D700 crashes app?

then removed them from the sd card, then synced the ipad to my macbook and all the photos were in my albums in iphoto

WARNING!!! Be careful NOT to delete from the SD card until you have synced your ipad to your computer.

As a general rule, if you value your images, they should should exist in two locations before deleting them off the memory card. And eventually, you should get the images to an off site location, like a hard drive at work, especially if you are going to delete them off the iPad.

Memory is cheap...you can get an 8gb for under $20...and just pop in another card until you can get to your computer to sync.

Anyway...I just got my USB Camera adapter and it worked with the first USB CF Reader I tried...so this is very good news.

The problem is that files transferring from a CF card (Nikon D700 files) hung up ever 10-20 files..."Photos" app would just quite. But, the files from a a SD card (a D90) with videos and equally as large of JPEG files, stream through over 100 pictures with out stopping once.

Any ideas? Anybody else have a transfer crap out in the middle of the transfer?

Maybe it is the CF card reader you are using. Also, what size CF card are you using. I could not get a 16GB card to work no matter what. My 4GB seems to work, but I haven't tried to transfer more than a few pics during the test I ran. I have yet to do one after a photo outing.

My CCK SD card reader had no problems importing the 30-40 I had on my 16GB Class 4 SD card (no RAWs just JPEGs).

Dang it, reading this really makes me want to get one. Im more interested as using it for a portfolio. Anyone have any problems using it as a portfolio?

Wow

SDCARD wifi is very cool. Too bad it only workds with non X2 speed and only comes with 4GB. I don't think that is acceptable if you are using a 5D2. That's like 140 pictures with small JPEG.
Wish they made a 8GB version or X2 that works with 5D2.

I am having extraordinary difficulties with my Canon 5D Mark II's CF cards connected to my iPad. Sounds nearly identical. I am directly connecting to the iPad from the 5D.

Small or short imports are not a problem and work perfectly. Long imports, multiple selections (as opposed to import all), or attempts to import additional images from a card I have already imported, all cause Photos to crash.

If I completely reboot the iPad, it gets better for one import.

Asking and reading around' it appears this is isolated to CF cards. I did report it to Apple in hopes they address it in a future fix.

Anyone else having CF card import issues?

My 5D mk II works fine. Do you have multiple folders set up on the 5D mK II? What Flash Card are you using?

I pad can display raw files with ease, but you will fill up the low HD ipads quickly. The advantage if find when taking it on a shoot is you can do any editing on the go. Too many times have clients been looking over my shoulder when ive been up loading and tried to get me to do this or that to the image, while on the shoot.

With the iPad it's great that it doesn't have the ability to do lots, or any editing.

Yes...but I am trying to narrow down when it is happening. It seems based on very limited number of transfers, that it is one camera's files that is doing. SD from D90...no problem. CF from D3...didn't crash at least the one time I tried. CF from D700...crashes every time. Now I need to figure out if the card is the same on each time...does it need formating (not likely as I format regularly)...is is the size of the card (Ultra III vs Ultra IV). etc.

SanDisk Extreme III and Extreme IV thatt are formatted regularly in the 5D Mark II

Doesn't seem to matter which ones I use, if I want to do a single import all is fine, but multiple imports crash repeatedly.

I am going to try a CF card reader we bought but expect no difference.

well, I did a few more cf transfer over the weekend. Just can't draw a coorelation as to what is crashing. But then it didn't crash on me yesterday or today, both times were with two different cameras and two different memory card, one of which has been known to crash...just not this time.

The only thing I can figure is that there were not 200-300 photos these past two times.

I too am having trouble with my CF cards. I bought a Verbatim 20-1 card reader (which I had heard was confirmed to work with the CCK). Well I took some test photos on my Nikon D700 using a 4GB SanDisk IV (older gen high end card)... they transferred fine. Then, I popped in my new 16 GB SanDisk Extreme... No dice. I got the dreaded "accessory uses too much power" message on the iPad. However, they did transfer via the camera. I'm beginning to wonder, in my case, if it's a card speed issue.

Update: Nope, it wasn't card speed issue. Turns out it was a bad USB cable issue. I tried a different cable on a reader that hadn't even worked before, and what do ya know, I got transfer joy on both types of CF cards. Now my Verbatim reader has been delegated to the backup bin (since it's cable is built in.)

Ya live, and you learn.

Yeah - I am thinking this is also the source of the issue and plan to try smaller imports to see if it helps.
