Heres the Case: i will have a contract and activated iphone with At&t and everything(will buy this weekend), and all i want to do is jailbreak it to install apps. Many told me to use ziphone so i think i will use this. so, exactly how do i use it? when i get my iphone this weekend from at&t, what exactly do i do? Right from the box after activation. do i update it first to 1.1.4 or what? Can someone just easily tell me how to JUST JAILBREAK it?

I thank you

Ps: is there any irreplaceable(not restorable) damage that results from just jailbreaking to install apps?

on ziPhone select just jailbreak then. When an update comes out watch zibri's blog and he will give instructions of what to do. for 1.1.4 he recomended restoring and then ziPhoning again

I too have an ATT contract and have jailbroken my phone several times. To make sure it is as pristine as possible, when I upgrade the firmware I do a restore and I do not restore data from a backup - I do it as a "new phone." then I let itunes do its thing with regard to synching mail, songs, etc. It will automatically activate the phone and program it with your number.

Once that's done, I run ziphone and only select jailbreak.

From what I read, that's the best method.

this is just all confusing for me. and why for some people their icons on the iphone disappeared?

i think ill wait til march 6 to see what they do.

So, how go you use ZiPhone? does it use apptapp form installer. app?

What is the difference between unlocking and jailbreaking?

if i have a registered iphone from At&t that is activated like its suppose to through itunes, is all i need a jailbreak?

Unlocking means you can use the phone on any GSM network (T-mobile) for instance. Usually, this means you need to jailbreak as well.

Jailbreaking is just getting the ability to install apps.

im noticing way too many problem with jailbreaking, so i will weight out till march 6, and hopefully apple will make it easy to install apps.

don't get your hopes up... I am pretty sure they wont... the best thing for you to do, backup your iPhone, restore it and unblock it / jailbreak it again...

You download ziphone and install on your computer, then just do what the guys said and jailbreak. You can decide if you want to upgrade or restore to fw 1.1.4 or not. I would say stay on 1.1.3 til after Thursday. Just my opinion :)

is it possible to get bricked with jailbreaking? and whats up with the peoples icon pictures disappearing?

no icons disappearing here. Have jailbroken my iphone several times. The ziphone is hands down the easiest. No damage to phone in anyway.

Cheers:)

Oh yeah, and for ziphone, because the iphone would be activated and contracted to AT&t, but just jailbroken, if apple makes a 1.1.5, can i upgrade, or do i wait. if i cant just upgrade what do i do. the instructions confuse me a little, because it says to restore it, then upgrade?? im a little confused. need clarification

sorry forgot to mention, your phone will not get bricked if your jailbreaking. Only times I have heard of bricking a phone is with some of the earlier unlocking methods. If your going to be using at&t and just jailbreak your phone can't get bricked from jailbreaking

WORD:)

awesome. can you answer my next question please?

do you have your iphone yet? The restore happens within itunes, you just select it after plugging your phone into your mac/pc. WHEN apple makes 1.1.5, ziphone will be updated within a few days more than likely. You would wait for the new ziphone and others to test it, then download the next version of ziphone, plug your phone into your mac/pc, restore via itunes, run the new version of ziphone, select jailbreak only and you will be running 1.1.5 and ziphone, phone will be jailbreaked and your ready to install all your apps again.

It is really easy and straight forward procedure. If you don't have an iphone yet, it could be a bit confusing. Run out get yourself an iphone and go for it!

expecting to get one tomorrow, but when you say restore, what exactly do you mean. in itunes press restore, then jailbreak using ziphone, THEN update itunes? is that all right? and when installing, im confused about the recovery mode i see in the youtube video

and only unlocking and activating is brickable?

can anyone post the best tutorial of ziphone?

and because it will come out of the box after i activate with att, i can upgrade it to 1.1.4, then use ziphone 2.5?

Restore simply restores your phone to it's original state. All contacts, music, movies, etc. will be erased/removed from the phone.

The reason you want to do a restore is to make sure your iphone is updated to the current firmware version 1.1.4

1.Get your iphone
2.plug it into your mac/pc
3.itunes will launch (mac) not sure if you'll have to fire itunes up on pc or if it's automatic.
4.setup your new phone (will answer questions, setup your phone number and activate your phone)
5.Now your good to go, you can use your phone, but wait, you want to jailbreak your phone to "unleash the power".
6.restore your phone, via the option you will see in itunes if your iphone is plugged in. Restore will erase the phone again (since you have activated the phone and set up your account, you won't have to go through the whole iphone setup gig again, it simply wipes the phone clean.
7.go to ziphone.org and download the current version of ziphone.
8.install ziphone, it will do it's thing (takes 10-20 minutes)
9.now you will see a new app, installer (icon) on your phone, go into installer and start installing any and all apps to your hearts content.

That is it!

NOTE: Since your phone will be brand new, once you have set it up and activated the phone you could very well just visit ziphone.org, install and start loading apps without having to restore (ONLY BECAUSE YOUR JAILBREAKING IT RIGHT AFTER ACTIVATING IT THE FIRST TIME)

Hope this helps you out man, get that phone, your going to be stoked!

i get it. because its completely new, i can upgrade to 1.1.4, the use ziphone to jailbreak. when 1.1.5 comes out, i have to downgrade it(to which one again?1.1.4 again but as new phone?), set the phone as new, then use ziphone, and then upgrade to 1.1.5?

thanks again for your help. ur cool

at what point would you actually upgrade to 1.1.5? thats the step im iffy on..

or wait... when i ask it to restore, will it restore to the new version if i ask it to?

Personally, I dont' rush out and update to the newest version of firmware because a lot of apps have to be updated and you want to wait a bit so ziphone and other jailbreaking methods can update their software.

I usually will wait a week and then update. I am going to update my phone this evening to the 1.1.4 firmware. I have been running 1.1.3 and ziphone jailbreak for a while now.

Also, unless there are some serious appealing new things in the iphone firmware when it is upgraded, there really isn't a rush to run out and update it right away.

Long story short, it's best to not be in a rush, read some of the message boards to see what kind of issues people might be having and don't be in a rush to update. It's your choice if you want to be a lab rat (upgrade right away) or wait and see what the other people who were in a rush to update are experiencing, then upgrade when you are seeing that people aren't having issues with the new update.

PS> if you use ziphone, you will not have to downgrade existing firmware to upgrade. Just plug into itunes, restore phone, download ziphone, install and enjoy!

:D:DCheers!:D:D

restore it to what version. k, let me make this clear in a story. i have a jailbroken iphone v.1.1.4. itunes makes 1.1.5. then, i wait for ziphone to make a new one. when they do, i go to itunes press restore, and set new phone. At what point do i update to 1.1.5? do you get what im saying?

Ps after the jailbreak, i heard you have to install BSD SUBSYSTEM 2.0. is this true?

PS> if you use ziphone, you will not have to downgrade existing firmware to upgrade. Just plug into itunes, restore phone, download ziphone, install and enjoy!

What do you mean downgrade? do you have a screenshot of what restore lookis like? arent there options that come up?

I feel stupid because its just confusing!

so every time a new one comes out ill have to restore and lose everything in my iphone? is there an easy was to go around having to put everything back manually? after i would download the new ziphone, is there a way i can put everything back into it easily?
