i really need assistance. going to bed, but will check here tomorrow.

Gacxx, stick to your plan. Go pick up your new iPhone tomorrow, activate it, then post back.

A lot of questions will be answered once you physically have the device in hand. With newer methods of jailbreaking out there, it's straight forward.

There is no reason to post you "NEED HELP" now, when you don't physically have an iPhone in your possession.

step 1. get the phone, check it out & Enjoy it! Then when your ready to make that leap to make your eXperience that much better, jailbreak that thing and use your phone. When you run into troubles, which you shouldn't (Phones been out a while now), but should that situation arrise, use the "NEED HELP" call then.

:):cool:Good Luck and Enjoy your iPhone!:apple::)

iTunes makes a backup of your contacts/messages etc. After a restore you plug it back in they are re-synced. The same with music and vids (unless you delete them from iTunes).

It couldn't be easier, you have nothing to worry about

Gacxx,

I am a (well, was) a Microsoft person through and through (although not Windows Mobile - hate it!) and this iPhone is my first foray into the world of Apple (well, actually I have a Mac Mini as a media centre, but that doesn't count). Anyway, I have been very impressed with how well iTunes syncs with everything (Outlook Calendar, Outlook Contacts, etc) and is able to backup pretty much everything on your iPhone.

When I first got my iPhone I unlocked/activated and jailbreaked it on 1.1.2 ... and I started to use it (adding appointments, adding contacts, music, videos, etc.). Then I backed it up/sync'd it using iTunes, did a complete restore back to factory settings, and upgraded to 1.1.3 with an unlock/active/jailbreak again. When finished, re-sync'd and restored data using iTunes and *everything* came back. Impressive.

Give it a go ... you'll be fine!

I think this may have been mentioned before.... is there ANY way to upgrade the iPhones firmware (e.g. 1.1.3 to 1.1.4) without losing the apps you've installed? I've installed and customised over 40 and i really dont want to have to do it all again.

Gacxx,

No one knows what will be necessary in future OS versions, 115 for example, since its possible Apple will radically change something.

All you can do is wait and observe what braver people than you are doing.

You will have to reinstall all your 3rd party stuff each time you upgrade, but the regular iPhone stuff like contacts and music will sync normally through iTunes. That's just the way it is, but its a good way to eliminate all the crap that builds up from constant hacking.

Remember you don't have to upgrade each time Apple drops an update, I'm still on 112 because I'm lazy and don't feel like redoing everything. So have fun and jailbreak and if it becomes too much of a pain just update and elave it alone. I suspect that after half a year of SDK there will be fewer reason to keep your phone JBed.

Dude, just relax. You're bitching that no one is helping but we've given you a huge amount of info already when we could have easily just said Google it.

You can't brick your phone doing this so why don't you just try the steps that have been spelled out for you. If that doesn't work try Google. :D

Buy your phone and just enjoy it. So what if you don't JB it in the first day.

in addition to my previous questions a couple replies above, will the addressbook, photo, music etc..normally syn with iTunes when the phone is JB?

sorry to all about me being inpatient. Wow, the board vies grew, and a lot replied! thanks everyone. any things to say about what you think might happen Thursday?
