Still no joy with Lightroom, but am getting decent results with Aperture so quite happy to use this for now. Also I've found that I can export to LR to do the Grad Filter and straightening if I need to. I can export into LR no problem, however I don't know how to then get the image back into aperture? Doesn't really matter as I can then export from LR, but would be nice to know.

Also, when I export to LR should I choose 8bit TIFF or 16bit TIFF? With TIFF files does it give you the same adjustment scale as RAW, or is it more akin to jpeg?

Another question, when I import into LR I can select whether to copy the file or add them. I choose to just add them so that it doesn't move my original file, and does not copy it, therefore saving storage space. From what I can gather, Aperture is copying them and putting them into its own filing system on the hard drive (it appears this way anyway as I have very few photos in and the aperture library is already over 2GB. Is there a way to just add it from the existing file location and not duplicate it, or relocate it? I don't want to use all my hard drive space up too quickly.

Well I updated to lightroom 5.3 today and still have the same issue.

One thing I forgot to mention was that if I work on another image and go back to an image, or close LR down and reopen it, the sharpening is absent. If I click on the sharpening slider all of a sudden all the sharpening magically appears again

I would try and get hold of an Adobe engineer. In the Adobe.com forums there is a forum for Lightroom. Link. Try to create a short-ish post with your problem - and start there. You are going to be asked to try all the things you have done already. Some you should try again, and some I think you can say you've done that already. Make sure to mention the symptom in this latest post though. Good Luck. I'm all out of ideas.

Thanks, it seems I've had a bit of a break through thanks to this thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/5924963#5924963 which you'll see I've replied to.

It appears that changes can only be seen when zoomed in, which as you'll see from the thread, doesn't really help me much as I want to be able to view at 'fit to screen', and not at 1:1 as at 1:1 I can only see part of the image.
