A bit of both, I do photography on the side, so it's going to be a great aide for that! Editing 18MP images on a Core 2 Duo was painful to say the least :p

Nice, I have done it full time for 25 years, high end advertising, editorial and fine art. I went with a 6 x 3.33 with 32 GB of OWC ram, 10TB of storage on board and a 120GB SSD in the lower optical bay for boot. So far it is eating through 600MB scans and single export raw output in Lightroom in a fraction of the time it did on my old 1,1 2.66 Mac Pro, well worth it. I also have a new refurb 30" ACD with it, fantastic combo. All four FW800 ports are taken up by 4 2TB externals, quite a bit of storage and backup now. Both my new Mac Pro and 13" Macbook Pro use a 2TB Time Capsule for the boot drive backup in each.

Now when you say "Editing", you really mean post-processing, correct? Editing is choosing the photo, not sure when this term misuse started, probably when the terms "Nice Capture" and "Bokehlicious" came out, LOL!

My iPad-2 gets here on Friday, I can't wait to sync it to my new mobile folder of 10GB worth of stock images for when I am on the road, a good week for sure.

Have fun, there is nothing better than moving into a new Mac!

Congrats! Did you purchase Applecare ?

Thanks! And no Applecare right now, going to wait a few months before I get it so I can recoup a bit of money.

grats! great comp =)

Thank you :D

so whats the main use of your 'beast'?

Lightroom and photoshop mainly along with some gaming, I'm not going to lie :)

Sorry, got about five hours of sleep last night, I did indeed mean post-processing. I still need to amass a few more external hard drives, only have 4TB of external storage right now and unfortunately they're all FW 400, so I'll need to get some new enclosures with FW 800.

I've been using it a bit so far with Lightroom and I can see a huge jump in speed, especially with batch processing. It's nice not to see the progress bar going so darn slowly! (Plus when encoding via handbrake I get 310FPS vs. 46FPS on my MacBook Pro :))
