HK? Similar to HQ and the old QM? Sounds like a Workstation by HP or Dell. Is it? I think if you're not a mobile pro the Mac Pro, even if old, is simply better. Micro Center was selling 512 GB 12 GB RAM Xeons for around $2,500 new a while back. A similar refurbished setup costs about $2,800 on Apple's site. Pretty entry model. I think the top one tops out at around $10,000 and it was hardly worth the money new yet alone three years later.

There's a lot of hob knobbery about FCPX and Logic and this and that being better but I wouldn't expect anything different from Apple apart from neutering the products over time to shorten development time and make it more efficient as a result of not having major overhead. Having friends who own large production houses, most work has gone to PC over time and or both platforms, but use very different and more expensive software. Personally, I think it's in Apple's best interests to keep the Pro updated. For all we know, it may be going under some radical changes which add to the delay. As I've said the last few days, I'd wait until end of Q3 '17 before making a jump. It'll be nearly 4 years then, but historically speaking, the Pro was updated in either spring or summer. Not fall/winter like the 2gen Pro.

Yes, the nMP trash can with D700 has about 33% more GPU power than my laptop and more CPU power with probably most of the configurations. I was just comparing the newly updated Macbook Pro to my 1 year old Alienware 15 R2. I will point out though that the Laptops with a Desktop GTX1080 (9Tflop) have much MORE GPU power than the 3 year old MacPro, even with 2 D700 (3x2 Tflop), and they're probably cheaper as well. Cheapest nMP with dual D700 is 4 grand.... and has less hard drive and memory standard.

I'm not really saying you should get a ridiculous PC gaming laptop for actual work, I'm just pointing out how long 3 years is (though the 7970 which the D700 is based is actually 5 years old)
