There are some features of Quicken 2007 that are not "X" in its chart; but the mistake is moot as they claim these features are in 2016.

Intuit just released Quicken 2016 for Mac and it may well be the real upgrade to Quicken 2007 for Mac that we have been waiting for! They offered me a 40% discount and I will probably buy it for a trial soon after Thanksgiving.

Maybe now Intuit can put its terribly misleading release of the updated Quicken Essentials as Quicken 2015 for Mac behind them by giving 2015 customers a discounted release as well!

How did you get the discount offer. I am a quicken 2007 user

Another vote for MoneyDance here. Back in 2012, I decided to switch from the neglected Quicken 2007, and looked primarily at MD and iBank. I liked MD better and have been generally happy. Seeing the negative feedback here on iBank, it looks like I made the right choice.

MD is not perfect. The reports are serviceable, but not quite as flexible as Quicken 2007 was. While it has decent iPhone-to-Mac syncing, it does not have Mac-to-Mac syncing (yet; it's promised), unless you want to keep your whole data file on Dropbox, which I don't. And, while their earlier upgrades were reliable, they rushed out their 2015 version earlier this year and it was buggy. (I trust that they won't make that mistake again, and it runs just fine now.)

On the plus side, unlike Quicken 2007, it supports multiple currencies. The interface is clean and fairly easy to work with. It tracks stocks and mutual funds well. Lots of little details are better than Quicken 2007 was. (E.g. if you accidentally enter a bunch of transactions into the wrong account, you can move them all at once rather than one-by-one.) The bottom line is that I have used it day-in, day-out, for 3.5 years and never once have said, "I wish I had something better." It works, no fuss.

Like someone said, you will have to do some cleaning up after importing, but once you do, you won't have to worry about it anymore. I certainly did not have any loss of data on import.

'I tried Quicken for Mac 2015. '
I work with free GnuCash to run a small business. Works fine and robust. Importing my bank accounts, custom reports. The VAT section is a bit obscure.
Probably does not everything Quicken does, but hey, Quicken is not even available in the Netherlands.

As a qualified accountant for over 10 years, I personally wouldn't recommend anything other than QuickBooks Online (QBO) from inuit,

You get all the features that you loved from Quicken but with the freedom of a cloud based system

We now act for more than 400 QBO users and a handful of them made the switch from Quicken itself, any questions or you would like to see a demo them drop me a message.

Cheers

Aaron

Thanks for the comment, Aaron

I have actually been looking at it as an alternative, or perhaps Quicken 2016 for Mac, but am undecided. My main concerns revolve around two issues:
1. Does it handle multiple currencies and investment types and such better than Quicken (which is not really optimal)? I am Canadian but have investments in US$ and other foreign holdings that have different tax situations.
2. Is the security adequate considering it is cloud based?

Thanks for any input

FYI: Quicken for Mac 2016 is available on Amazon for $49.99. Online bill pay / transaction download is included.
I upgraded from Quicken for Windows 2013 today. Have been a Quicken user since 2003.

The file conversion / transfer went well with a few small cleanups.

The new Mac version looks to be full-featured enough for my use. I'll try it for a month or so and then, if all is well, trash my Windows partition and VMWare Fusion.

No affiliation other than being a user.

Does it print checks? I write 4-5 checks per month, and really need that feature.

Long ago Quicken Mac offered an outstanding portfolio management program that had strong charting and graphing options. Not anymore! The new quicken is nothing more than a calculator without options. Previously I used the old Quicken to handle the 44 stocks in my portfolio. It was great and I could move stocks in and out, then bring up the graph and see how my portfolio performed over time. It would also give me lots of different charts to display my stock assets (bar, pie, line, candlestick) . In fact, there was an extensive chart reporting section you could pull down and select the display you wanted. In other words, it was worth buying! Not anymore, the new 2016 Quicken is not worth the money for an investor, even a beginner..................

Bought it. Already requested a refund from Intuit. Still one of the most useless pieces of software ever devised/published/sold for OS X. You've been warned.

I am a daily Quicken for Windows user and would very much like to scrap Parallels / Quicken for Windows which is the main reason and use of Parallels...I would very much appreciate you expanding on what features and functionality Quicken for Mac 2016 is lacking.

Thanks in advance.

Importing my .qif file with 6 different accounts never worked. I could only import a single account. Beyond that, the interface was difficult to navigate, could not customize it to my liking (as was possible with Quicken Win prior to 2010)... and it crashed/locked up after several minutes of trying to use it.

Just wasn't smooth and functional as the old windows version... and most definitely not worth the effort.

@dwfaust: Appreciate the response, very helpful. And, unless anyone has had a different experience, definitely not worth the effort!

@All: I am looking to scrap the Parallels/Quicken combination. Has anyone had a positive experience with either Quicken for Mac or Mint? Thx..

What qualified you for the discount? (I.e., how can others get it)?

$75 for Quicken 2016 for Mac? I had given up on Intuit, and after reading the reviews and seeing the price, nothing has changed. Maybe whoever purchases Quicken from Intuit will make a product worth purchasing. I have zero confidence in anything coming from Intuit.

I agree with you but the problem I have is worse than yours in that I live in Canada which means I essentially have no options...I even considered moving to iBank or MoneyDance on a go forward basis only to learn that provide no Canadian functionality.

I am therefore I) stuck with Quicken and ii) hoping that the new owners will produce something better!

For the UK users, I have been using Quicken 2004 (UK version) running under Crossover, for some years with no problems. Hardly ideal, but I have transactions going back to 1992 so really don't want the hassle of moving.

As much as I hate to admit it I am going to upgrade to the Quicken for Windows for 2016 because i) there is nothing better for me at this moment and ii) as much as I want to drop Parallels / Windows I simply cannot...I thought I would be able to when I upgraded to Office for Mac 2016 but it is so buggy and so feature lacking (relative to the Windows version) I cannot make the change!

You made the right choice, I just bought quicken for mac 2016 used it for about 2 hours getting my accounts in order. I was using quicken 2007 then went to Mint. I wanted to have a data base on my computer but after the time I spent this morning I released Mint has more features that the mac version. I played around with a friends copy of quicken 2015 for windows and it is by far better that the mac version. But for now I stick with mint and download the data to excel on a monthly basics.

Appreciate the confirmation that I made the proper choice but I do sincerely hope that whoever purchases Quicken develops a fully functional Mac version that fully and properly imports Quicken for Windows data files....I should add that I am focused on dropping Parallels / Windows because -- and this is unfortunate as well -- Office for Mac 2016 is buggy and feature poor relative to the Office for Windows 2016 (i.e. Office for Mac 2016 does not even contain the same functionality as Office for Windows 2010) meaning I will need to keep Parallels / Windows as long as Office for Mac lags behind Office for Windows!

It was included in an email blast about security issues that Intuit sent to registered Quicken 2007 for Mac owners.

I am underwhelmed by Quicken 2016.

I do not need Bill Pay, a new feature in Quicken 2016 and I am very happy with continuing to use Quicken 2007.
