Hmmm

I'm quite peed off about this. I have a copy of Mobile Files Pro, and was annoyed when they changed the app name. Now they've trippled the cost and re-packaged something that should have been a free update. I will wait for Docs to Go...

I'm wondering what's going to happen when/if they introduce the ability to edit Powerpoint slides. Are they going to add that function, rename the app to Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite Pro, and then charge another $19.99 for it (instead of offering it as a free update)?

This may give this company a bad reputation now, but in about 6-12 months from now the average consumer won't remember MobileFiles Pro.

However, a big strike against this is app is that you cannot download doc files to your app from your email.

Because only Apple can define how to handle the opening of files from emails, developers can't define that a .xfgajfkla file is always opened by their app.

One thing Ive noticed is there is no spell checker?? Or auto correction. Should be a standard thing.

What he was saying that you can't tell the iphone:
whenever you click on that coolfile.doc from mail.app to open using Quickoffice.

you have to open quickoffice and open the coolfile.doc from within it.

The first post says that you can't open files from email. I'm inclined to believe that as I don't think that third-party apps can read from the mailbox. I'll be happily proven wrong though :)

Right now the only way to save files (besides photos) from your emails is to use an app like iStorage or Folders and use their built-in browsers to access your email account over the web. You can then save the document. What these mobile Office Suites will need is a built-in web browser that can download files and store them locally in their sandbox. Readdle Docs has this ability too.

This saving files only within an app's "sandbox" is becoming quite a negative for the iPhone. It needs a central file repository that any app can access like it has for photos. And you should be able to save any type of file attached to an email.

I agree not being able to open a word doc from email seems mad.

But what is it like to use once you are working ?

I took a look at in app store and it has copy and paste.

How will this work with the 3.0 copy and paste will it be a mess??

or with readdledocs you can forward an email with an attachment to a certain address they give you, and then it shows up in your readdle online storage

I'm really pondering whether or not I should get this.

I would wait because DataViz Docs to Go should be coming out in about 1 month and it should be excellent. You can then compare to two and pick the best one. This is what I'm going to do.

+1

I too won't be giving QuickOffice anymore money in a hurry, noting their underhand tactics to shaft their customers. I'm also more likely to buy Dataviz just because of this. Having waited as long as I have, 1 month isn't much more. Besides, I'm enjoying my new Macbook at the mo :)

This is my first negative post here on MacRumors.... DO NOT BUY THIS COMPANY'S SOFTWARE. Read the reviews for their former MobileFiles Pro (now "quicksheet"). They are one of the most unethical companies I have ever dealt with. They promised this upgrade to all early adopters and then changed the app to a less than "Pro" version and released this new one at a ridiculous price point. Buyer Beware. I would much rather say positive things on these forums, but I really don't want potential buyers to be bit the way all of us early adopters were.

You are so right.

Highly likely, since they did just that for MobileFiles Pro --> Quicksheet. I think I'm going to wait it out and see if they learn from their mistake.

Quite a few developers do this in the app store. Look at the makers of xplane. For different types of aircraft they have a different app.

Except that the xplane dev's never said that the new planes would be added in future updates as the developers of MF Pro said that word processing would be added...thats what people are PO'd about

Correct me if im wrong

You're right. They are charlatans! I attest to it (as I, too, have had to pay for both MobileFiles Pro and QuickOffice). They've recently removed the forum facilities from their website: apparently, they couldn't bear with the plethora of complaining customers.

Besides, their "office suite" for iPhone (QuickOffice) is of very, very limited capabilities - even auto-correction is missing with their "suite".
Hopefully, Documents to Go (slated for release in May) has auto-correction, a wider range of fonts and colours and so on…
But what I really would like to see ported to iPhone OS - is SoftMaker's mobile [office] suite. A friend of mine has it installed in her HTC Touch HD - it combines a remarkably good interface (by all means beyond comparison with anything available for Windoze Mobile) with phenomenal functionality! Here more information on SoftMaker: http://www.softmaker.com/english/ofp_en.htm .

Correct me if im wrong

They did promise new planes in free updates, and have provided them. They have just created different apps for different kind of aircraft, which, imho, is perfectly fine.

They didn't screw anybody over with x-plane.. they've put out 8-9 free updates since it was released.

Version 1.1.1 was released last night and the update allows saving a Word document and Xml file to be saved into a folder.

It also allows allows sending of files via email. These are steps in the right direction.

Things I would like to see in the coming updates are the ability to open files (from email) and autocorrect.

Still unusable since you can't download files from your email and edit them. If I have to use an available laptop or desktop to get a file into this App in order to edit it, why wouldn't I just use the laptop or desktop to do my editing then. I can't say this is exactly their fault, but Apple's fault for making everything hard to do on this GUI. I guess someone will come up with a "work-around".

it totally sucks if you do not use mobile me. Fortunately I have switched over to mobile me and this opens tons of options with quickoffice and readdledocs
