so with quickpwn, the advantage is we do not have to restore our jailbroken phone with each jailbreak update right?

what is the disadvantage to it?

Disadvantage is that it will not install all the nice additional things that people like to include in an IPSW. While not a major thing, some people like to avoid having to install things over and over again.

like what? If I already have installer and cydia installed, will it keep them plus the themes and games and stuff i have installed if i quickpwn it?

i'm just confused on which way saves all my items i've installed.

It doesn't. This will require you to use the virgin update from Apple, which eliminates all your jailbroken apps and other changes and then Quickpwn will reinstall Cydia and Installer from which you can reinstall everything.

YES! :D

but I want direct link for download :(
I hate bittorrents.

Why? It means everyone can get a very fast download and as more people get on the faster it goes rather than the old download link system where it just grinds to a halt. I personally have distributed it ~9 times this evening.

so how would I be able to save my jailbroken apps and themes when a new jailbroken version comes out?

do I hit the download link and all I got was a bunch of code? do I have to hit the link from my phone or something? also, is this safe to use since I used ziphone when I was still on 1.1.4?

so is QuickPwn more like a "soft" jailbreak???

i need my iPhone UNLOCKED... so is QuickPwn NOT for me???

fyi: i already have it UNLOCKED with 2.0.2 Firmware, but i mean, when new updates are available??? :D

Are you using 2.0.x now? You're fine.

You need to control-click or right-click on the link and go to "Save file as..."

If you're using the 3G that's listed in your sig...you can't unlock. You can only jailbreak. There is no baseband unlock for the 3G yet. If you're using a Rev. A iPhone then yes, you can unlock after you QuickPwn by downloading BootNueter from Cydia. The unlock has carried over from prior versions so far, though.

no 3G, for now!!! i'm still using my 2G (until there is a 3G unlock, of course... i have the 3Gs sitting in the boxes at home)

so... you're saying that for the 3G, it is a "soft jailbreak"

for the 2G, it is a "soft jailbreak" and then you can use the Bootneuter to UNLOCK...

correct?

and do you have to reinstall all your apps from Cydia again?

can you do a "regular" update via iTunes?
1. i understand if it's the first time you want to do anything to your iPhone (2G) then you can use the QuickPwn and then the Bootneuter

2. what happens if your iPhone 2G is already UNLOCKED and you do an update via iTunes (so that you can then QuickPwn)... does the iPhone BRICK???

Some of the files may be retained as you update but you're more than likely going to need to reinstall the jailbreak applications you installed.

i could have sworn there was a way to retain all your downloaded items from jailbroken stuff. i.e., i'd like to save my themes and use them on an updated iphone 3G.

i think i found the answer myself????

i read in a Hackint0sh thread that QuickPwn is basically for people who have legit AT&T accounts that want to add Installer.app and Cydia.... which is great!!!

CORRECT???

i understood before, that you can then use the Bootneuter (for the 2G version, of course) to unlock it

what i found interesting is that i read that if you QuickPwn, you don't have to go through the LENGTHY reastore process (and belief me, my daughter's iPhone 2G has about 50 apps and takes about 3 hours to backup... she's on AT&T; i'm on t-mobile)

its running on my iphone 2g right now... took a few tries to get the hang of the dfu thing but... I will let you know how it goes...

update: success! I now have cydia and am going to try my tmobile sim. if all is good I think I am going to break my at&t chains once and for all

Even if/when there is an UNLOCK for the iPhone 3G, the 3G data service will not be usable on any other carrier in the USA - T-Mobile uses a different frequency for 3G than at&t does. I've read that over and over again - if anyone else knows differently - for sure - please post links.

I dont understand the point of QuickPwn if you still have to restore to a stock firmware before Pwning
Why would i do this over using the normal Pwnage Tool?

You can SSH into your phone and backup what you downloaded as per jailbreak installs but they won't be there when you update using the virgin IPSW from Apple

It's for people who have the official 2.0.2 software installed and have already loaded a bunch of iTunes apps, modified settings, added ringtones and music etc. With quickpwn, Cydia and Installer are added without affecting the existing apps and settings.

You don't restore, you update. This means that your music and vids stay on the phone, as do your SMS database, notes, etc...

uninstalling?

Hey
i just used quickpwn, while the process was simple my phone keeps restarting with this pineapple...weird.

anyways how do i revert the phone back to its original state, i done think quickpwn is for me.

i'm just confused as to which i want to use when updating an already broken jailphone so i keep everything on it but just have the most up to date version.
