Does your online order

Does your online order list 2933?

Yes. I ordered directly from Nemix from this page and my email order confirmation from them shows 2933MHz (also the modules are labeled 2933):

Wow ~
It really has been mislabeled. Best wishes to the replacement.

Hi guys . Dont mean to hijack this man's thread but i have a quick (unusal ) question.
I needed battery replacement in my mid 2012 macpro and also got the charging ciruit replaced (the megasafe dc in board you plug the charger into) and went to a repair shop to have this done.
I bought the parts myself beforehand as these places can keep your laptop for weeks if you dont!

Seems a fine job but now computer only showing 8 gigs of ram . i have had 16g for last 2 years

Looking at both megasafe and battery replcement operation videos on youtube ..... for either or both there is no need to go near the ram ..so i'm alittle concerened.
Every visit to a repairs shop has been a long expensive nightmare for me and there are alot of shady guys in this work.
I guess 'm just asking because i dont want to take the lid off myself and check because if needs be i want to be able to threaten him with fingerptints proof if he says that i actually took out one if the ram sticks myself afterwards!

Ist it possible that a quick disconnect/reconnect battery fix might fix this if there are still two memory sticks there (which unfortunatley i cant tell) . Because i hate confrontation i was thinking of going back and buying a charger off (which i need anyway) him and asking if he could have a quick look at the memory situation while i'm there . that way if he or his assistant stole a memory stick they can replace it without admitting anything and i can get on with life .

My refurbished MP 7,1 has the 3.5 GHz 8-Core processor & 48 GB of RAM (6x8GB). I'm going to order 6x16GB so that all 12 slots are filled. I have two questions:
1. Is this RAM correct: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/2666R1M96/
2. I believe that the larger RAM is supposed to be in the first channel (possibly stated wrong but y'all know what I mean), so would I move the existing 6 to the currently empty slots & then install the new ones in the vacated slots?

^^^^For the 8 core running @ 2666MHz, yes that is the correct RAM.

Less Expensive here:

Question two - Yes 👍

You are in the wrong forum. You have a MacBook of some kind, not a Desktop MacPro.

I would rather spend just a tad bit more for faster RAM speed. Yes, your CPU will not make use of it now but you are future-proofing yourself in case you want to upgrade the CPU and you haven't limited your specs right off the bat.

Your Apple supplied RAM right now is 2933 speed.

So for $50 more you have consistent speed specification across the board.

If he is future proofing for film/studio work ~ get more RAM.

Posting it here as well for those joining late to the party on RAM upgrade question:

Found info from the white paper that mentions mixing memory sizes in a balanced configuration (in which case they label as near-balance in this case). If you want to know what a balanced memory is, see chart below.

"If DIMMS are populated on the memory channels such that they have different total memory capacities, the memory controller has to create multiple interleave sets. Some interleave sets could have fewer DIMMs. Managing multiple interleave sets creates overhead for the memory controllers, which can reduce memory bandwidth."

They further quantify the loss later in the paper:

"Measurements show about a 3% loss in memory bandwidth when using a Near-Balanced memory configuration as compared to a Balanced memory configuration as long as there are an even number of total memory ranks on each memory channel."

So, I learned a few things tonight:
1. The Mac will not power on if the case is off
2. The Mac will not power on if the case is unlocked
3. The Mac will slowly blink an amber light if it does not like the memory configuration
4. The most important part -- pay attention to what the configuration is supposed to be. I thought it was 1,3,5,7,9, 11 & 2,4,6,8,10,12. Turns out it is 1,3,5,8,10,12 & 2,4,6,7,9,11

What I learned over past 7 months:
Do everything possible not to have to take case off and have to unplug all the connections 😎

That is truly one of the biggest mysteries of the 7,1... so much thought and engineering into so many details and I have to unplug (9) cables from the back every time I open it up (at least I don't use the top ports)! Expandability is one of the main selling points, so why place a roadblock in the process for no good reason? I spent a couple weeks transferring things between my 5,1 and 7,1 and the 5,1 was effortless in comparison. It should not be a common need, but still makes no sense. All I can figure is they hired the Chevy Corvette design team that built the entire car around the oil pressure sensor assuming it would never have to be replaced!
