Mac OS 7 (always in my heart)
OS X Tiger (the first nicest OS X releases in my opinion)
OS X Mountain Lion (much more stable than Lion so far)
Windows 3.1 (you don't get any better software wise, so much stuff made in this era, then it just all died after Windows 95)
MS-DOS (memories of playing Monopoly, using The Print Shop, and other things)

I would think Mac OS system 1 should be there as it ushered in a new era in computing - graphical user interface. While not first on the market (lisa and even xerox's attempt), it was the first to be in a consumer focused affordable computer.

Commodore Amiga? Workbench?


I'd say, and it's entirely personal and some of it is on there just because it was my first experience of that system blah blah, and I'm not doing 10 because I can't name 10 games I totally love let alone a full OS -

1) Windows XP (still good today, which is weird)
2) Snow Leopard
3) Windows 95
4) Windows 7
5) Snow Lion

Top 10 OS's would be pretty much all of the ones people have heard of, so I'll give you the top 5:

1. OS10.8 ML
2. iOS 4.3
3. Windows 2000
4. TI-OS (Texas Instruments TI-84)
5. Windows 7

Most people only remember Windows NT and XP but I have two old laptops running Windows 2000 and it's one of my favorites. It has most of the features of a modern OS, you can do everything you need with it, but it requires hardly any resources. It runs quickly on a 255MHz processor and 128KB RAM. It also starts up and shuts down almost as fast as Mountain Lion.

As a recent Mac convert I haven't used any older Apple OS's so I didn't put them on the list.

I remember that operating system. I was saddened to see IBM completely mess up on providing a top grade OS. Definitely an OS that was years of a head of anything MS had but they couldn't market themselves out of a paper bag at that point in time.

Was a little before my time, but from what I understand, its a shame Microsoft and IBM broke off their joint development on OS/2. THat could have been great.

Leopard, Lion and XP I would say, not sure about 7 others.

1) Snow Leopard, It just runs nearly everything and stable, from old PPC apps to all modern serious OSX apps (if they only support Lion, they are not serious), great emulators and virtual machines. Not too much Eye Candy (only an overdose of hubble photo's which can be erased).
2) XP. It runs even more software, best long time support and actually pretty ok for a Windows OS.
3) Windows 8: it is not mature yet, but it will kill iOS and Android. And that is a good goal! It is a look into the future where phone, tablet and laptop will merge. Grab a Surface Pro to truly understand it. Don't put it on an old desktop, it does not make sense.
4) Tiger: Great OS that made the Hackintosh possible
6) Panther: First usable OSX
7) System 7. It took me through my masters.
8) Norton Commander, not a real OS but it made DOS usable.

9 and 10 are irrelevant

You like win8 - on a tablet or computer? I found the metro interface counter-intuitive on non-touch screen devices. Of the windows operating systems win7 is the best imo.

I think my love of OS X Panther came mainly from my love of the machine I ran it on - it was my FIRST full-time Mac, a PowerMac G4 Dual 500MHz Gigabit Ethernet. I absolutely LOVED that machine; it and OS X Panther were the cause of my complete and total conversion. Other than a slight back-set with Windows 7 and a big-hoss desktop (a Mac equivalent that I could never afford), I haven't looked back.
