I gave up on Safari and moved to MS Edge. Too much hassle.
Edge works better on my mojave macmini than safari, well HBO streams only on Edge.
and their "photo of the day" are very good!
i guess that will be my go-to browser when Mojave bites the dust.

Have you tried reinstalling macOS? It won't wipe your user account, and might fix the random closing/reopening issues. Alternatively, it might be caused by some sort of syncing issue with iCloud, so try signing out and back in again?

Can you believe it.. in 2022 on macOS Monterey this is Safari - such a simple thing like adding support for what is vector graphics seems doable! no?

PS.. before anyone asks; it's Deviantart.

also,, Safari is not all garbage, but it isn't the better browser for macOS - even Safari's bookmarks system is still junk.

Why something so simple as an indicator of an already existing bookmarks that I am certain was in Safari at one point got removed, is beyond me.. Apple in their strive for simplicity has done the impossible of making their browser too bland an experience Not an actual quote

First, reinstalling however many times won’t solve the problem of not having CMD+Q safety feature like Chrome and FireFox has.

Second, why I have to keep login and log out of iCloud just to let tab group works? What if I have to wait minutes or even hours after each log out and log in if such issue persists? Yes I tried that before and no it doesn't solve the problem.

Third, if Apple’s engineer is so incompetent that the only solution to any problem is login and logout and/or reinstall everything, they get to take the blame, not the end user. If Apple doesnt value customer’s time, then end user should not value Apple’s time either.

First, I specifically said reinstalling might fix the syncing issues, so your whiny response about the Cmd + Q feature request was misplaced.

Second, you haven't said that you've signed out of iCloud before, so how was I to know?

Third, this is just more whining.

Finally, don't come here asking for help if you're just going to whinge at people who are trying to help. It doesn't get you anywhere. Goodbye.

I see iCloud bookmarks synchronisation with iOS is broken yet again. Along with the comedy sidebar and favicon lottery in iPadOS 15, Safari these days is a total embarrassment. I understand that software is complicated, but if a three trillion dollar company can’t ship a working web browser in 2022, there’s no hope.

Safari keeps logging me out of websites I frequently visit. Amazon, eBay, etc... Everytime I go to one of these, I have to reenter my username and password even though I click the box to remain logged in

im getting tired of the 3 extra steps to see history on the Ipad, and searching for the refresh button.
but that is just it, a $3 trillion company won't be better if they think they are the best!

Why is the lack of confirmation on cmd+Q such a big deal? If you ever do it by mistake you can always select "reopen closed window" or whatever it's called after restarting.

I actually disable that confirmation on other browsers because it seems pointless to worry about it, as they all support restoring your last window.

OK! I'm joining in on the RANT!!

I upgrade my iPhone the other night and they did something that seemed to reorganize my tab groups. Ever since then, my Mac's Safari has become possessed. The window sometimes just switches to a different tab, or the tab starts showing a different page (presumably in its history on some device).

Anyway, to write this post I went to my phone to check the tab group change so that I could relay that information. I didn't see anything strange; everything was back to the way it was before the iOS update. But, of course my Mac's Safari wouldn't have it. It switched me over to my Amazon order in another tab. And the tab I was using to type this post jumped to a different MacRumor's thread.

Pretty much unusable. Maybe it will all settle down again and I'll conveniently forget this pain.

I feel for the hardware engineers at Apple. They make amazing products like the M1 series, design is subjective but the latest Macs have all had a premium feeling to them and they perform well thermally.

iPad Pro - Amazing HW but baby software

Mx Macs - Amazing HW but buggy software.

It's their software engineers that need the kick in the butt. In 2016 it was the hardware team that had poor hardware while software was great back then. Now they switched roles.

Yeah, I’ve had some complaints about safari, but I will say I’ve always hated that other browsers break the CMD+Q functionality. I’ve been quitting applications with command+q since 1991, and Amiga-Q before that. Why all of a sudden do we have to hold it down, and just for browsers? Arrrgh.

I use Safari for financial websites and Firefox for everything else. My biggest issue with safari is plug in support. It prevents ad blockers from properly working. Of course Google did this with Chrome but I expect that from a company that makes its money from advertisements. It’s just weird Apple did it.

I don’t think I’ve ever accidentally pressed Command + Q. It would be nice if Apple gave us the option to remap some of the commands.

Adguard for mac works perfectly for me.

I’m guessing this is an app and not a browser plug in? So far I like my pihole setup best because it blocks annoying ads and all the ones that cover the entire page where you can’t read the content and on all devices connected to wifi. This is nice when I’m on my iPhone or iPad. I’ve tried ad blockers on iOS but they don’t seem to work very well. It doesn’t always block YouTube ads but that’s not really a big deal since I have YouTube premium.

A feature that doesn't behave the way it was designed to behave is one thing.

Not having a safety net for yourself is another. I've been a Firefox user for close to 20 years. Closing the window was always Ctrl+Q. ALWAYS !!!!

Apple may have lowered the bar too much.

Getting the same tab group issue too. Annoying when trying to clean up and the closed tabs just Keep reappearing
I haven’t tried tab groups yet. Maybe I need to watch a YouTube video on how that would work with what I’m doing. I’ve heard of some examples where people say if they’re paying bills they have a tab group with their financial websites. That might be useful.

I really don’t do my main browsing with Safari. To me Safari is the Mac equivalent of Internet Explorer. It’s main purpose is to download a proper web browser ?

I was enjoying the tab groups. I have a tab for all my financial sites. I have a tab for all my different email providers, a tab for various servers on my local network, a tab for my various cloud files providers, etc.

But now tabs are broken for me. It's almost as if there are two version of my Mac Safari (since I'm currently using no other device). One version is my Safari a minute in the past. The other is my Safari at the current time. Every now and again the browser from the minute in the past synchronizes its changes to the cloud. Then those changes are updated in my current time browser. So I kind of have the effect that my browser rewinds now and again. It's pretty agonizing.

It was quite the comedy trying to compose an email this morning within the Fastmail web UI. Over the course of five minutes of writing, the web page shifted from under me two times. One time it just jumped to another tab and one time it jumped to a different part of the Fastmail UI. Luckily, each time I was able to reopen the draft to keep working.

I did use my iPhone Safari this morning, but I haven't touch any of my tab groups on that browser in days.

I haven't yet tried to log out of iCloud yet. Maybe I'll do that this weekend. Before I do that I will call Apple Care and see what they say.

Called Apple Care this morning to get help with my possessed tab groups. They had me reinstall the OS. :) Five hours later, I had the same problem.

I don't doubt that they would have continued to pursue it if I had reopened the case, but I just went ahead and recreated my tab groups. I haven't had a problem since doing that. But, 30 minutes of playing around is not a thorough test. We'll see.

"Adguard for Safari" works perfectly with youtube on mac. You have to enable correct extensions though.
