I like to try out the new features early. If there are any major issues, I can revert back. So far though, after years of beta testing, I haven't had any. So I am pretty confident in Apple's beta releases.

Because some people are hipsters who simply want to try new features without knowing the consequences of installing beta software. Even Apple's public beta software page mentions that 'since the public beta software has not yet been commercially released by Apple, it may contain errors or inaccuracies and may not function as well as commercially released software'. People just don't read.

I'll bet you more than half of the people who start threads here complaining about iOS 11 bugs don't even use the Feedback Assistant.

Hipsters? Do you call any and everyone a hipster?

People love to say Apple users are all hipsters, so irritating, not you but in general i dont get it because if you walk into a Apple Store I see mostly soccer moms, edlerly, and teenagers.

Right, walk into an Apple Store and you'll see everyone from a construction worker to a painter

I agree that most people probably don’t use the Feedback Assistant, but there still is some good in having non developers who know what they are doing install the dev betas. I’m pretty sure that Apple has mechanisms built into iOS to collect data without the user having to actually report it (I read about this somewhere awhile back). And even if this isn’t true, people who are running the dev betas and have the “send diagnostic data to app developers” setting enabled are at least helping the app devs workout issues with their apps before the public betas and final releases are pushed out.

I feel like most people who come here and post are willing to put up with the issues, and they're legitimately seeking help/advice rather than angry posts from someone who has nothing better to do than shut them down for using the DP. Going on a rant isn't going to stop stupid people from installing it, but like I said, most people who install it have the general know-how and a lot of them are probably actually developers, so we may as well be helpful rather than rude. End of rant.

I've lost count of the number of issues I've reported with feedback assistant over the years. I think it's an awesome little tool and for me it really makes me feel like I'm helping other users out. The new screen recording function in ios11 has made life a lot easier too.

I think this is what most ppl do. But lately it seems like Apple has been lagging. For the user that just wants to try the new iOS early there really isn't much for them to try. A new notification center, new dock, new multitasking etc, those features are great. But not enough to have iOS 11 on a daily driver, at least not till they have a few more beta releases rolled out.

100% agree. Seems like people don't understand what "beta" means anymore. There will be issues, bugs, broken features. If you aren't prepared to deal with that, wait for a stable release!

I agree completely. I would argue that the new features in the UI aren't even that groundbreaking to walk around using it as a daily driver. Most ppl just want to be the first to try the new iOS, but bitch that they can't do anything when on it. They don't get what the def of a beta is supposed to be. But I agree to a certain extent that if someone is just downloading to play around with it, they should wait till the public beta is released.

I hope you're right but I would think PB1 won't be until after 4th of July weekend.
Apple explicitly stated that it would be "late June". In my mind, that's anytime now (as we're in the last third of the month, even if Apple frequently means that quite literally, as in the last day of the month). Although there are bugs in DP1, there do not appear to be any showstoppers that would force Apple to delay PB1 beyond the stated date. Of course, it could always happen, but at this point I don't see that.

Am I the only one thinking today ?

I think there's a decent chance of DP2 today (better, say, than tomorrow thru Friday). I'd say better chance next week, but that's based solely on how things went down last year, which, as we know counts for exactly nothing!

I'm still on ios9 on my primary device. How's that for waiting lol
Unless you are planning to keep your device on iOS 9 forever, your best bet is to upgrade to iOS 10 before September, since iOS 10 is almost as refined as iOS 9 at this point, or even better.
When iOS 11 final comes out in September, you won't be able to update to iOS 10 but rather directly to iOS 11 which you probably don't want due to the bugs and the loss of speed in comparison with iOS 9.

I agree with the original poster. Except the subset of people you're referring to are too lazy to even read the warnings and educate themselves about what they're diving into. I don't suspect anyone from that crowd will ever see these messages. They appear to be too busy to read anything.

Look at it this way. iOS11 is the first time ever that the iPad will be treated as something more than "A Big iPhone".

Obviously Beta programs are full of risk for users. But I think its understandable for people to be anxious Many users have been dying to know if the iPad would ever be a legitimate platform and the answer is right here. (Spoiler: The answer is Yes)

Anyway, discussions on a discussion board are good because, even if the topics arent not useful to you, it likely is useful info for someone else.

i downloaded the beta right away and had to revert back within a day. It seemed to be the most unstable OS beta I've used. Some apps won't work, had trouble downloading apps etc. I will just wait until it comes on my new phone in October (per reports) lol

You said "Obviously Beta programs are full of risk for users."

That's obvious to me. That's obvious to you. That's obvious to most people, especially in this area of the forums.

I believe the original poster is referring to everyone else. The people it is NOT obvious to.

I don't believe input from that group is useful. Not to me, not to you and I suspect, not really to anyone else. Sure, it might save some poor soul from doing stupid themselves. But anyone who jumps into the beta program without understanding what a beta actually and ignores all the warnings and such, are probably far less likely to read anything here anyway. So I don't agree that a discussion here provides value to someone out there.

I think the DP1 is pretty good for a first beta. I have littles bugs and reboots on my air 2 but since a week now, it runs relatively well. The only annoying thing is the battery life. My iPad goes very hot when I do basic things like surfing the web. There is nothing wrong to test new firmware as long as you are ready to revert back to current public iOS version if things mess up for you.

I think the biggest mistake people do is installing the beta to their primary phones. Its not meant for that. If I only had one iOS device, I would never install beta's on it.

As far as public beta goes, I think it will release next week, but we have to see DB2 before PB1 release. I think DB1 is not good enough for a public beta and based of iOS 8 and 9, PB1 was areas the second or third version of the developper beta.
