We just renewed a Spotify subscription for our teenage daughter. She is using her own money to pay for it and that's what she chose. I even offered to split the cost for AM with her but she didn't want it.

We tried Apple Music in our family, and we're going to resubscribe to nada. Google music gives you 50,000 songs to upload for free, which is enough for my essential listening albums. The wife just prefers internet radio- Pandora or whatever. Why spend the money if ya ain't gonna use it. Apple Music really only working for me with Siri. I can live without it.

Once I’d tried AM, I realised how useful a music streaming service was to me. In light of this, I decided to try out Spotify along with AM, to see which would be better for me.

My conclusion was I preferred AM. I really didn’t like the UI on Spotify and also missed the “For You” of AM. Call me lazy, but I really like having the music presented to me, rather than doing the thinking of what can I listen to, that I was finding with Spotify.

Sound quality is subjective, but I found the sound quality of AM to be noticeable better than Spotify. This was despite having Spotify set on the Extreme sound quality setting (which gives the highest sound quality of 320 kbps).

Despite the bugs with AM, I’m prepared to put up with these and I’m hoping things get ironed out over the next few months.

I've used Spotify a lot in the past. I've also subscribed on and off to Google and Rdio.

As opinionated and specific I am with my musical tastes, I also really appreciate the way AM lays out a bunch of listening choices for me. It reminds me of back when I used to get in my car and needed to pick from the CDs that happen to be in the car. I don't always have the to time to decide what to listen to. I gotta get to work! The For You tab lays out a nice healthy mix of stuff I listen to along with enough new stuff to keel it lively.

Music discovery is fun, but not all the time.
