Readdle announced the release of ReaddleDocs 1.2, a new version of their document and file management solution for the iPhone. Now iPhone and iPod Touch users can easily save files to their devices from almost any source possible: Windows, Mac or Linux computers, various web sites, email attachments, WebDAV enabled online file storage systems like MobileMe iDisk and even other iPhones.

ReaddleDocs 1.2 combines a network file server, web storage client, web browser, file manager and powerful document viewer within a single iPhone business application. It allows people to transfer documents to their devices over Wi-Fi and 3G in a number of ways, view them on the go, send by email and share with other iPhone users easily.

Network file server, the main addition of ReadlleDocs 1.2, makes it possible to work with iPhone running ReaddleDocs as a network drive from any computer equipped with Mac OS X 1.4 and later, Windows XP or Windows Vista. Another long awaited feature of ReaddleDocs 1.2 is the ability to exchange files with other iPhones and iPod Touches users. Wi-Fi connection is required for both of these functions to work properly.

"iPhone business users has strong need for integrated document management package that can be used to copy, store and share documents in a number of possible ways. I'm proud to say that ReaddleDocs is the only application on the market that answers their needs completely," notes Alexander Tyagulsky, Readdle CMO.

Also, ReaddleDocs 1.2 includes improved WebDAV client, that has better support for Box.Net and GMX MediaCenter services. New setting to automatically open last viewed document is now available.

ReaddleDocs is available for special price of $9.99 (USD) exclusively at the App Store.

Would be nice to hear your suggetstions/comments/ideas in order to improve productivity.
 
iStorage does all these functions PLUS the ability to edit text files and it is 4 dollars cheaper. Add the ability to edit Word documents and then Readdledocs wins, but not in its current state.

Not sure if iStorage can do this, but Readdle Docs can do great things with attachments. When you purchase Readdle docs, you get your own special email address. Whenever you receive an attachment in mail, you just forward it to that address, and it shows up in readdle docs. You can also email files from within Readdle Docs.

I'll have to go read up on iStorage. Like I said, I know nothing about it.

That actually sounds very cool. iStorage cannot do this. I usually will do this sort of thing with Google Docs, but you can only send certain file types. So, you can e-mail any file type to your Readdle account and it will pop up on your iPhone?

As for attaching files to be e-mailed out, iStorage can handle any files you throw at it.

I don't know the complete list of file types it can view. I do know that you can send anything to that email address and it will show up. However, you may not be able to view it. I'm pretty sure that at this point all Readdle Docs can handle is the MS Office file formats (word, excel, powerpoint), your basic image files, iWork Files (before being exported to office format), TXT, FB2, RTF, HTML files and PDF's.
 
Thank you for advising it. I've bought it yday and can rate it with 4.5 stars for sure. Ofc text editing would be awesome, but it's quite hard to implement as far as I know.
I've been looking for some other way to transfer files from my PC to iPhone using Readdledocs without wifi router and found next.
Here is instrucrion how to do it:

After you create the network on your iPhone go to settings then wifi connect to the network you just created with your computer. Open ReaddleDocs, switch to Online tab and you will see the IP address of your phone on the top bar. Open up web browser and type in the IP address (dont forget the port number eg. 169.254.223.67:8080) and you will see the Readdledocs page.

To add files on Windows XP:
-My Network Places
-Add Network Plae
-Choose other network connection
-Click next
-Type in your iPhone IP address
-Click Open this network place when I click finish
-If you setup password you will be asked for it
-Your done, just copy files to your iPhone

To add files on Windows Vista:
-Click Start/Computer
-Right-click in Computer window select Add a Network Location
-Follow Wizard, choose another custom network, click next
-Type Readdledocs IP (this is IP of your iPhone) don’t forget the port :)8080)
-Type in password if required
-Click open network place when I click finish
-Click finish, your done

OS X
-Click Finder icon
-Click Go (from menu bar) and connect to server
-Type in Readdledocs (iPhones IP address) with port number :)8080)
-Done… to easy!
 
This does sound like an interesting app, especially since I don't have a WiFi signal all the time. I wish there was a light version though. For all my other expensive apps iXpenseIt, Todo, etc. I original got the lite version, but later upgraded to the real thing.

The new version is coming with major updates such as:

-you can view photo and pictures directly from your Photos folder
-RTF + RTFD file format support added
-scrolling in fullsscreen mode are woking smoothly like in Shakespear app.
-fixed work with https linksinbrowser

can you save those photos in the photos folder to your iDisk or other WebDAV things? or just view the photos?
 
Comes up short

Why does it only let you pull files from your iDisk and not post any there? Seems like a huge oops considering their other product OneDisk can download AND upload files to your iDisk.

And why is it that none of their products can share the files once pulled down to the iPhone or iPod Touch? Did separate software developing teams work on these products?

You can share any files between Readdledocs users without any problems (you can even share files with Air Sharing which is also using Web Dav server).
None of our products cannot upload files to iDisk yet, but our development team is working on that at the moment and it is planned to add this feature as soon as possible (with the upcoming upgrade, we hope) to Readdledocs and One Disk.
P.S. We would be glad to hear some suggestions and recommendations from users of our products about what they miss and would like to have.

Any chance you plan to add access to google docs, so we may pull these documents and store them on the iphone? This is the feature I'm waiting for. This would be a killer feature.

We've got a lot of work to do at the moment, so to be honest it's not planned for the nearest future, but we'll keep that in mind and probably will start working on that.

Same thing for me...the first one to be able to sync with Google Docs will be the winner. Every app I look for now must work with my Google Account. This equates to having a free MobileMe account. The majority of apps on my iPhone now work with my Google Account and file sharing/storage is one of the last to get fixed. Apple still needs to fix iTunes to allow direct calender sync like they do contacts but that is not an app.

For free Google Account Users:

Touch To Do...Tasks/Projects Sync to Google Calender where you can set reminders if needed

gNotes...syncs any notes straight to your Google Account

Google...search and direct link to your Google Account and plug ins that do not have an app yet.

Gazette...Syncs to my Google RSS feeds

ABContacts...syncs to my Google Contacts through iTunes
iPhone Calender syncs to my Google Calender by using Outlook and Google Calender Sync...until Apple fixes iTunes and allows direct connect.

Now I need a storage app to connect to Google Docs...Who will win this race???

Im agree with you 100%. Unfortunately it looks like google is no longer supporting google notebook which gnotes sync to.

I just used it this morning and everything is there that I created. It syncs perfectly with Google Notebook both ways.

In the newest version of Readdledocs (upcoming update) one major feature will be added (be multiple requests of our customers) - UPLOADING to iDisk, hope you'll like it.
 
How does the app handle pdf's? Is going through pages fluid or will there be a bit of slowdown? I got airsharing when it was free and its pretty slow going through pdf pages.

Currently we're using the same engine to render PDF files as Airsharing, thus it's pretty pretty much the same.

But we're developing the new engine that will be much more faster even with large files.

I wanted to ask what new features are planned in the nearest future and upcoming updates ?
