You may want to try the USB Logitech headset H530 as it is for Mac and Windows:

The mic works here as this is what I use to chat. Its plug and play with the Mac Pro. No need of drivers or any sound card. Costs about $50 dollars. Music or chat works fine too. Normally if you want a mic it is available only on the Apple cinema display which is more expensive

You don't need a USB mic in the nMP

For the new Mac Pro (late 2013/2014) you can plug in headphones that have an in-line mic into the headphone jack.

Bug= Fehler

lol.... cheap.... price ... :) I mean something like a phone loudspeaker thingy. you placed it anywhere on your desk , maybe behind the screen. Just for PC and under 100 bugs . ;-) Nothing professional, just simple easy and for skype etc.

You will not want ANY bug, (Fehler)!, surely not 100 of them...
Eventually a microphone under 100 bucks... that's reasonable.:D

I've been really happy with the Snowball Mic from Blue Microphones.

You can usually get one a little cheaper from Amazon (right now they're running about $75.)

It's fully powered by USB, so there's just the one USB cable, and that's all you need to deal with.

Well this is 7 years late, but if you're still a member here. Thanks so much for the recommendation. I got my Snowball mic today from B&H ($50 bux) works GREAT. Thanks Again!!!!!

Ha, nice...I actually just started singing last year, and *that* was not so great with the snowball. I ended up buying a Blue Yeti, which is amazing - gives a lot more flexibility and range :)

I use a Griffin iMic I bought on ebay for something like $8. Works great, though I'm not sure it's any more useful than a USB Mic since there is already line input on the Mac Pro.

Edit: D'oh! Got punk'd into replying to a 7 year old thread!

I have a Samson Meteor, the sound it captures is really amazing for the price. Would love a Blue Yeti, but this is enough for now.

Really, complaining that your desktop didn't come with a mic (or mic port) is a bit silly. The mic they would have put in would have been ok, but invariably crap for anything but basic video chat. Plus, the built in sound cards on motherboards are poorly insulated so connecting a good mic will not yield professional sound.

The point of a Mac Pro, is the flexibility and expandability so we can put what we want in them.

I feel the need to necro this for a response. The point is people spent 2000+ on a workstation and it should have had a basic mic in port. Older and newer workstations did. The fact that I need to buy a separate device is stupid.

The argument that is would be poor quality is kinda moot as they DID put audio in and out ports. What kind of quality would we expect out of those? If they bothered to put an audio in, they could have made it a hybrid port.

I doubt the Mac Pro is very quiet, and an internal mic would pick up way too much internal background noise from the fan.

Not to mention it's a desktop in the most desktop form, and you could be putting it anywhere, even out of internal-mic range. Compare that to the iMac and Macbooks which, by design, are always in a useable position where an internal mic makes sense to install.

Overall it seems like it's just not worth it when a decent-sounding headset is just, what, $20-$30? If you bought a Mac Pro, you certainly have the budget.
