I hate to bring this up again, but wasn't the new version of RealPC supposed to come out on 1 July? I don't see any mention of the new version on FWB's site, except that you get it free if you buy the old one. Anyone know what's happening with it?

It is such a sad time. Ever since Microsoft's hands were only lightly slapped (the DOJ really wussed out here) they have gotten bolder and bolder in their moves. From trying to keep RealPC from making a comeback to future versions of IE buried in Windows. Remember, that was part of the antitrust action to begin with. The fact that IE was inseperable from Windows and caused unfair competition (or lack of). Until there are really held accountable they will continue to try to squash any company that treads on their grounds.
I bet they are just drooling over the SCO lawsuit with IBM and the alleged UNIX copyright infringement within the Linux kernel.
Now, Corel is dying slowly as well. We will have to see if their buyout can make the company rebound. Remember when WordPerfect was actually the superior word processor.

Didn't Microsoft buy connectix or something? Then soon after they sued the makers of realPC? I am pretty sure that's what happened. Only proves that M$ is trying to take over the world.
I'd like to see a new version of RealPC. It would give M$ some competition. I wish FWB would publicly say what is going on and when we might expect to see the product released.

I thought FWB announced that the MS lawsuit would delay the release (of the beta) until 1 July. Unfortunately I can't seem to be able to find this information on their site anymore.
It was there until June 30 saying a beta was coming on July 1st but on Tuesday morning it was removed. We may never see RealPC it looks like.
Too bad, I was hoping to see more. Wouldn't it have been cool for Apple to include RealPC on new Macs? Not that you'd want it to run too fast. You wouldn't want an OS/2 situation. But better intergration with hardware (especially vid cards) would be nice.
I was at the Bellevue Apple Store yesterday, and one of the machines had VirtualPC on it. Not too bad, but it was slow to start. And running XP.
If I get it, I'm running 2000 or 98. Gawd, I hate XP. 2000 is ok on my real PC (no pun intended), but it has it's limitations.

Grrrrr. I was praying and praying and hoping that RealPC would indeed happen too. Seems my hopes are dashed... I really really really wanted the (real) 3D graphics card emulation to work! I wanna play my MMORPG in peace!

... and since MS bought Connectix, the agreement transferred, and the 800 pound gorilla can now stomp around at will. IIRC, it was some fine print about some legal technicality; not necessarily a full-blown 'lawsuit', per se.
Most people I know, die-hard PC people, say that they tolerate MS at best, hate it with a fiery passion at worst (I've actually asked this to people myself). Despite this, they can't be arsed into making the switch like me...

I'm getting more and more of the feeling that this was all just hype, a ploy by FWB to make a quick buck ("BUY the OS 9 Version now and receive the OS X version free!!!"--but we don't guarantee when it'll ship and whether it'll be any good).
First they claim huge performance gains with OS X. Then they delay the public beta for a month supposedly b/c of legal action by Msoft. Now, it's delayed indefinitely. My guess is that FWB's original agreement with Connectix was and is still valid. And that FWB claimed otherwise in order to hype up their currently outdated product and sell a few copies of RealPC before an injunction.
This is really disappointing to me as I still rely on Windows emulation for one program (AutoCAD). Hopefully, with the G5, VPC 6 will performa at decent enough speed to be useable.

I've sent off a polite email to FWB asking if they can provide any more information. I hope they're helpful, although I don't have too much hope for it
microsoft is being smart. although it really sucks for us i would do the same thing they did. buy out connectix, now they make a almost 100% profit on it and stop distributing windows to realpc. i hate to admit it but there a smart business team, you dont become the richest man overnight.

I wouldn't say smart. Shrewd and cunning is more like it. Let's not forget they were actually found GUILTY of anti-trust practices, they just weren't punished. And since none of the punitive actions had any effect, they are moving forward with their own ways of crushing competition.
Here are two examples. Linux is a threat that they have not been able to counter as of yet. So, what do they do. They buy the only company that has a decent anti-virus application for Linux and decide not to continue the product. It doesn't matter that the majority of malicious code only effects Windows, the fact that you can't get decent anti-virus software will keep many users away.
OS X is making a very strong statement. Microsoft could see this as a precusor to a new threat. Stability of Linux/Unix with as good (if not better) GUI. So, what do they do, buy Connectix, which at the time was making the only virtual machine for Windows on the OS X platform. They also discontinue IE for both platforms and will bury it in the Windows OS in the future. You wait, Office will be next.
Now, these could all be just "smart" business moves. However, they follow the general pattern that Microsoft has followed over the years. And it is the same general pattern that they were found guilty of anti-trust practices.

apple is asking to get ie and office to go away. thats nothing normal. apple comes out with safari, so they discontinue it. apple makes keynote, and im sure more of this mystery office suite, and when it happens microsoft office will be gone too. then apple will be in a hurting position unless they have one hell of a product and a good advertising campaign to go behind it. plus with connectix thing, its probably for the best. microsoft can probably do more with it then what connectix could everdo. guess we will have to wait and see.

most of us believe that it is more than decent but the US court sees apple as the only thing stopping them whooping MS' rear end out of redmond all the way to russia or china (linux is the dominant OS in china)

why should the presence of an apple-branded app automatically mean discarding every other competitor? why doesn't microsoft do what other competing companies do and endeavor to build a better product and let the market decide? it's not as if they are a struggling shareware company who can't compete with the free iLife apps. rather than give up in the face of any competition, just make a better product. i mean, granted we are talking about microsoft here, but this 'take my ball and go home' attitude is absurdly childish.
