if apple was smart they would have copyrighted their OS when they started. And if they did this would be windows rumors and we would be talking about how crappy apple is.

If Windows dropped to approximately 5% of computer users, it would die, because it would no longer have the one thing that makes people use it: software compatibility.
It's more likely it would be Linux rumors.

Any great news? Shipping soon?

I think about this sometimes. If it were the other way around, would Apple be just as bad or Microsoft? Or maybe even worse?

Just some food for thought.

From FWB's website:

Dear FWB customers,

As you are all aware, FWB is working diligently to update Real PC and Softwindows for OSX. In May, while working on this project, we received a setback in the form of a cease and desist letter from Microsoft.

We are working to resolve the issues with Microsoft, and this has caused some delay, much to our frustration. We are committed to having a beta for you to test for us and help us optimize, this summer._ We think we have only lost a few weeks of time to this issue.

FWB appreciates your continued patience and support

I was thinking that MS might be buying VPC to help them through the impending switch to 64bit. AFAIK AMD and Intel have different 64bit options so to produce one OS that can service old 32bit Winapps on both platforms they may need to pull a bit of emulation????

Cant find a review of wintel 1.0.0 anywhere. Anyone heard anything. VPC is way too slow for even office 97. I set up an AV solution whereby the incompatibilties could be averted with one machine Office X and VPC 97 but now that keynote imports powerpoint better than PPX it may be uneccessary...

Can any tell me if I should get this instead of waiting a few more months for FWB's?

Get WinTel. At least you can start using it RIGHT AWAY.

FWB has been promising vaporware for the past 2 years (Hard DiskTool for OSX, Partition Toolkit for OSX). You may have to wait AT LEAST 6 to 9 months for Real PC.

WinTel

WinTel appears to just be a frontend for the free Bochs emulator. With skill and patience, you can essentially get the same product for free. No idea about performance though.

The Ultimate Gaming Solution._ Enjoy the latest PC games with intense graphics thanks to 3Dfx Voodoo 2 acceleration and support for Sound Blaster Pro, Sound Blaster 16, and DirectX 5.

I'm sure the "latest" PC games require more than a Voodoo 2, but that's just my opinion.

Response from RealPC's new prez.

After seeing the removal of the beta program for RealPC I wrote and complained asking for my money back on RealPC for OS 9. This is the reply I got from the "new" president. It does not sound good.

Hello Cliff, My name is Marko Kostyrko
I have removed Mr Mark Strathdee as CEO of FWB software and replaced
him with myself.
The process of handing over is still under way and I have not as yet
had a chance to verify the authenticity of the claims made by the
previous management._ Because of this I have removed the claim from the
website whilst I carry out this investigation.

As soon as the story is clear I will make the appropriate press
releases to notify the public of the complete story. It is expected
that this will be done during the up coming week.

Yours Sincerely
Marko Kostyrko
CEO - FWB Software In

haha, now im just waiting for an email saying, what... the previous CEO said a new version of Real PC is coming, uh oh.

iJon

FWB Vapor Ware?

I drew the conclusion that RealPC is not coming for OS X I will wait and see and then bite the bullet for VPC 6

Yeah, their site doesn't mention the OS X version at all anymore :(

I'm glad I didn't get sucked in and buy the old version, I decided to wait until it was released and see what the reviews say. At the rate we're going, there won't be any reviews, because there won't be a product to review!

Ha. I was wondering what had happened to the RealPC story. Too bad if this is true. Still, a very strangely worded email from the new CEO.
