I actually should clarify that the only reason my dad has to get a Dell over a Macbook now is that he is a prefered customer and can get a great leasing rate apparently. But with Apple we have not purchased a Macbook from or any computer for that matter so we would have to pay it all up front. He can just call dell and order my laptop with no issues. In which case I guess im stuck. I just really want a Macbook over another Windows based computer.

I'm confused; is the computer for you or your dad?

If it's for you, and you're in college, the $100-200 difference in the macbook now is nothing compared to the thousands you'll be paying in school fees and books. Compared to the time you'll save not having to troubleshoot, I'd say it's worth it over 4 years. Not to mention the fact that you'll save $100 on a printer (which you'll need) if you buy from Apple.

If the computer is for your dad, why is he taking out a loan for it? Unless he's going to be getting 0% financing, a loan on a computer is a loser's bet. In addition to that, if it is for your dad, then the best way to get him to buy a macbook would be to let him sit down with one and play with it at an Apple Store. Do this, and you'll find that he'll be quite ready to switch ;) The one problem I foresee is related to financing programs. OS X doesn't have the greatest in terms of money-management software, and users have maintained that Microsoft Money is still the best one around. If your dad doesn't really pay bills via a software program (he uses automatic withdrawal from an account), then this won't really affect him too much.

My Experience

Well as a new Poster i must admit the mac is a mac, first off you dont have to uninstall a whole bunch of stuff that your never going to use when you first get the computer. I just got a MBP and the transition was flawless, AND then I tried to sell my Dell XPS 1210, so i figured i would restore it to factory spec's HUGE mistake somehow the hardrive took a dive so I had to contact customer support. They informed me that the HD was infact shot, and they sent me a replacement. It took me around 4 hours of time that I will never get back to restore that computer to factory. I am so glad not to deal with it anymore its not funny. All in all it seems the Mac Design people put user thought into things, and sometimes they over simplify the obvious. Anyways I am a convert and I am happy with my MBP. Tell dad no computer viruses too.
