Since I joined the DarkSide yesterday, I've decided to do a small series on MobiRiot about reasons to jailbreak.

The first reason we reviewed was QiK.

(Edit: YouTube is having issues today.. if you can't see the vid, hit up our YouTube page)

Please list your favorite JB apps, etc, so I can review some of them, thanks :D

Favorite apps:

Emulators for NES, SNES, Gameboy, MAME, Gameboy Advance...

Yeah, I've been thinking of trying the emulators.. and Quake also. :)

5 reasons NOT to jailbreak:

Re-jailbreak after every new firmware release
Sluggish/buggy/choppy performance
Might screw something up/brick iPhone 3G
All the customization if fo'sho, no real purpose
Waste time customizing and theming when you're just trying to show off.

I haven't had any choppy performance.
You can't brick it.. just restore to factory.
Customizing is nice, but MMS, video recording, etc, is better ;)

Apple shouldn't decide what we can put on OUR iPhones. It's a computer, and I choose to have video recording.

Not a computer. It's the iPHONE.
Yes, you can brick an iPhone 3G.
If you really video record with an iPhone, you need QC.
MMS, ehh.. not enough reason to make me spend hours of time and effort. Not even the combo of customization, MMS, or cycorder or whatever it's called when I get my iPhone.

No you can't brick an iPhone 3G.
Customizing can be a personal hobby.
Don't ever settle for status quo.

I love how people get on here and talk about things they have no clue about. Go be ignorant somewhere else.

You can't brick an iPhone by just jailbreaking.

If it takes you hours to jailbreak then you're mentally retarded. Even if it's your first time it shouldn't take nearly that long. Also you said WHEN you get your iphone so you don't even have one which makes your opinion irrelevant.

So when you do get around to getting an iphone you can let us all know how great it is having Apple tell you what you can and can't do with it.

jail breaking takes like 5-10 minutes at most and the process is so streamlined that you won't brick your phone. The iphone is more similar to a computer than a phone. Qik is an amazing app for citizen journalism and general fun. I can tether my phone to my notebook and surf the web, ssh into my servers using my phone, I can run apps in the background, and skin my phone so it doesn't look like every other iphone.

"when I get my iPhone". You dont even have a phone yet and you are making accusations??? ROFL

You dont want to jailbreak, then dont, but dont try to put your 2 cents into an iPhone forum when you dont even own one!

Reason #1: To piss off the douchebags that take it as some personal affront. Like those who say "If you want to take pictures, buy a camera". :D

FUD

Nothing in this statement is true, just so you know.

This came in handy this past weekend. I was in New Orleans with some friends. We were in a bar listening to some live blues music and there was this girl drunk off her ass who was dancing. We couldn't stop laughing. Without a jailbroken iPhone this priceless moment would have gone uncaptured.
