The fact that this "prototype" was photographed with an iPad in user acceptance testing leads me to believe that it is old news. So what if it was only found in a bar recently? I'm sure Apple testers hang onto these things even after the usefulness of the prototype has elapsed.

The design is probably completely finalised and newer prototypes which more accurately reflect the final product now exist, it's just that no-one's found any of them in a bar yet...

I have thought about this. It's a working prototype and the design will probably evolve.
But look at this part.

It does not look proto-typey. It looks like a fully-realised industrial design.
And this image is from China not the Pink Pussycat in San Jose.
In China they make the phone rather than evaluate the design.

I think this is final.

To me the clincher is the apparent lack of micro-USB. As noted above, Apple have agreed to this and it would give them more space in the phone. The Mophie Juice Pack Air already uses a micro-USB cable and it works fine syncing the iPhone with iTunes. I expect that Apple will adopt this new standard earlier rather than later. Of course, I could be wrong....

Adapters arevallowed under that law. Keep the dock connector for accessories, provide an adapter.

I believe in the specs and not the design, which seems to be what most people are saying as well. Spec-wise, I think they are spot-on compared to rumors and expectations. I'm sure they will change the design on the final product.

If you read the hands-on stuff, it's actually smaller than the 3GS.

No removable battery would make sense in the context of Apple. However, with terrible battery life, maybe they will make an acception.

MicroSD? I wouldn't be surprised. Apple is being surpassed by Android phones left and right. They have to cave in to customer's wants eventually.

I think some Apple employee might "commit suicide" sometime soon or "have an accident" hehe

One word - SCREWS.

The bottom of this prototype has screws - there is NO WAY Apple would put out a phone with visible screws on the bottom. This could certainly be a prototype and the final produce might have a different "wrap" on it, but I guarantee it won't look exactly like this.

...Have you seen the 3G/3GS? There are screws on the bottom of those...

In related news, the body of a white male was found earlier today on Stephens Creek Boulevard. Eye-witness reports say he was beaten to death with a single slab of aluminum by a man answering to the name of "Moshe", while his gaunt accomplice looked on.

When witnesses tried to intervene, the two perpetrators are said to have sped away in the direction of the 380 north driving a "powerful foreign sports car with no licence plates."

haha I know. I keep reading these people talking about how Apple won't show screws on a device.

HELLO!??

Look at any iPhone or the older Macbook Pros

Ridiculous.

"Who aaare these people??"

What was the point in making the iPhone 3G/3GS have screws on the bottom? I know the original didn't. Was it for Apple employees?

I think the OP is right.
Think about it....
Apple spent a few thousand dollars on building a decoy that would totally throw us off. One that has been torn apart and actually has enough working parts in it to totally deceive us.
Op, you really nailed this one. Good work.

Am I the only one that thinks the leaked images look better than that plastic cracking POS that is the 3G and 3GS?

Why would they bother? So dumb. A perceived leak is a perceived leak, whether it's the actual final phone design, a work in progress prototype, or totally fake. It all spells press and buzz for Apple. Just think about it for 2 seconds. So what if this phone looks nothing like the final release? What is Apple going to say on launch day? "Haha we fooled you...that was a dummy." No one will give a crap. They'll just look like a bunch of band camp geeks at that point.

ok whatever you say eagle eye

I agree with the OP 100%

The iPhone's design is never going to change!!!

Why would they make 3 phones in a row mostly designed the same way, then all of a sudden release something completely different.

Does this really look like something apple would release??
Everyone is complaining about the iPhone's design..it is sleek, simple, and cool.

This could very well be a prototype, but why would apple test the hardware/internals in the device on a brand new shiny final coating. They are testing the nice, newer hardware and OS on a prototype model.

This may be running the iPhone 4.0 but the case is not going to be final, guaranteed.
