I'm flabbergasted.

The glass came in one non-cracked piece, which surprised me considering the condition of the box in comparison to the other one.
The new one came with a Seagate drive in lieu of a Western Digital drive. :(
However, the yellow tinge issue is still there.
It's fairly noticeable when using Mail.app and the grey test.

First one - Week 47 / WD Drive
Second one - Week 50 / Seagate Drive

I thought Apple fixed this already.

Now I have ~$5k CAD in iMacs in my house. Wonder if Apple is going to send me a 3rd one then have me send the defective first 2 back.

Anyone getting new/refurb'd 27" iMacs without the yellow tinge issue?

geez. I really want to buy this computer but all these issues are crazy. Maybe I'm better off waiting or just getting the 21" imac instead.

Hope Apple comes up with a solution quick!

Something you must understand is the internet is now a place where anyone can voice their opinion ( A Good Thing ) however; don't you remember the old saying "Don't Believe Everything You Read" It defiantly applies here as well.

I am not saying this user has no issues, rather I am saying I have received a perfectly working iMac i7 with no yellow screen coloring, no hard drive issues.

It was perfection right out of the box.

If someone was going to just make up some figures just to point out something, lets say Apple has shipped one hundred thousand of these iMacs; you only have 1000 of them with problems.

This in my opinion is the price of having a mass produced product that is shipped world wide in a few hours, if we were only privy to the kind of problems that might occur with a new automobile this issue with the iMacs would be no different.

I say go for it and order your iMac if you really want one, I have two more on order identical to this one for Christmas gifts, I am not the least bit worried.

I would go the repair route if I were you.

I had the exact same situation and mine is going in for repair on Monday.

See my other post on the repair process.

According to a decent amount of people in here, I would safely say that the issue is a bit more prevalent than you state.

I'm glad you got a perfect iMac. I think a bunch of us would have liked that in the first place.

But let's look at it this way. You say 1000 out of 100,000 (1%) of the machines have issues. I suppose I'm the only one who has had the fortune of having a 0.01% chance of getting 2 bunk machines in a row? Some are on their umpteenth already.

I don't mind waiting for another machine, as Apple has been quite accommodating on this issue with me. However, there comes a point when time and frustration are boiling over. It's not like contacting Apple or transferring stuff via Time Machine is instant, let alone waiting.

I believe that alot more macs have issues but only x amount of us are retentive enough to check and look for those issues. Most people will turn them on and think that it works fine and they have a perfect one, especially people new to mac. People who have owned macs for a long time will straight away pick issues up, especially things like noise while PC users have no previous mac experience to compare it with.

If you do not know what you are looking for, I guess there is no issue for you. And if its not blatant or annoying then its perfect. For someone coming from an Imac with no yellow tinge to one with a tinge would be very annoying. Heck some people have better hearing and eyesight too ;)

My flickered after 30 min of gaming, fine during normal operation. Now given that alot of people do not use them for gaming, does that mean that their machines perfect or are they also faulty but due to not being stressed their owners do not know... or do they care as they do not game?

Perfect for one person means something completely different to another person.

My housemate loved his new imac, was perfect for him, I found a dead pixel within a minute, a case of knowing what to look for, it did not even occur to to him to check it.

I had an issue with my first i7 iMac. Now I have a second one and all is good to go. Drive is very quiet..and its a Seagate. No yellow tinge to the screen, and no flickering or tearing.

Life is good....:D

my mate has iMac number 4 after the first 3 came all with different issues
and so far no issues with it so maybe its just a case of returning them often enough to grab a working example ..lucky dip or so

i asked him to put his experiences down on this forum ...he refused he told me
"no i dont look at forums , because if i had i would never have ordered one "

he only ordered one as he did want to buy a new pc from sony also a AIO ,but i was always praising mac osx so instead of getting a sony he got a iMac but had to return them 3 times , i`m lucky he still talks to me after his experiences with his iMac`s

I am posting on my freshly unboxed i7 and it has been impressive so far. We will see if any of the HD problems develop or the yellow tinge (it does have slight tinge at the bottom but not enough for me to return it at this point).

another one who thinks his iMac has no problems apart from ....
it does not matter how good or bad the yellow tinge is , you did not order it with a tinge or?so why should you get a tinged screen and it does not matter if its at the top or the bottom or if its only a half inch or the whole screen it is a imperfection

if you would buy a new red car you would not say i doesnt bother you if the bottom half came in faded pink

Just got my replacement iMac (the first had a flickering screen).

I did the "yellow" test. I might have the problem, but I'm not sure. At the end of the day, I don't spend the entire day looking at a screen with 4 grey bars on it, moving them up & down.

I'm happy :)

I would say you're wrong. You only hear about the problem iMacs, not the tens of thousands of non-problem ones. Plus, people on this site are OCD and anal.

I see this comment over and over on various fora covering a diversity of hardware. However, what I highlighted in bold is patently incorrectly. There are a plethora of people on Macrumors who are very happy to advise, unprompted, that they have a perfect iMac. And that is great. Please do not state, as many others do that "you only hear about the problem iMacs".

For those who think the problem is bigger than others think. How many people with working i7 iMacs are going to make a post to say theirs is working fine vs the people who make a post stating their problems?

As for the OP, I think its bad that if they sent you a refurb, that the issue still was let through their quality control.

It is the nature of many people who frequent this forum that they love Apple products. I love them too. Read the threads just on the first page - there are lots of posts from people saying how they love their new iMac and they don't see any problems or any problems for which they would return it. Plenty do. I am flabbergasted that seemingly there is a huge blind spot for those posts where people are saying they have no material problems with their machines.

Edit: This thread took me 10 seconds to find. Someone opening a new thread to proclaim how happy he is with his new 27"

How would u know what hard drive you have? Do they ship some western digital hard drives in some machine and seagate in the others?

WD, Seagate, Toshiba. Look under "About This Mac", more info, and serial-ATA.

I just wanted to add to the conversation that I went to my retail store here in Tennessee (USA), and purchased my 27" i5 iMac, and it's working fine out of the box. Very surprised, and very grateful.

Just wanted to post that as I know many people do not post enough when they do have a perfectly working iMac, but mostly only the people who are having issues. So there you go, and best of luck to the rest of you, hopefully next time around you get a decent version, but I'd wait too if you can. :)

Nope, you're patently wrong by sheer statistics good sir...

I"m on my 2nd 21.5 and both have the yellow

I've had a dell studio XPS with a Core i7 for a year without any issues. You never hear about these machines having problems and they were released when the Core i7 first came out. The biggest problem they have is noisy fans that can be easily replaced. It's pretty sad that all these new imacs are biting the dust so fast. There's no excuse for this, the i7's are not new uncharted territory as far as CPU's go. The problem is Apple crammed too much hardware into a slim case. Core i7's run hot and the heatsinks Apple is using is a joke. This is just the tip of the iceberg we're going to see many more failures as time passes mark my words.

As a data point my week 50 i7 is like your second one....and I got lucky enough to get one the first time....

Oh yeah, Dell Studio XPS systems have never had any issues. I have one as a work computer, and its my third one over 5 years, and they've all been POS models. Goes well beyond that of a noisy fan.

As with any forum, head on over to the Dell forums and you see the same thing. Any new product is going to have teething pains. You are very short sighted in saying that Apple just needed to pop in a proven processor, and everything else just falls into place with respect to the design. This is far from the case. That said, I've had one issue with the iMac design since I've been purchasing them, and I've had 4 models. Pretty good track record. This is night and day versus my Dell experiences, which is just a conglomeration of 'sell to the lowest bidder' parts. No better than an eMachine when they were around.
