Got my Square in the mail today (I was able to get it early), I'm going to the Apple Store right now to go and test it out. I won't be getting an iPad until the 3G comes out, but I still want to test it out on the iPads at the store.

Can't wait until they release the Android app so I can use it on my phone, too...

This Square is cool!

EDIT: The Square is a credit card processor co-developed by the co-founder of Twitter. The device is free, there aren't any monthly rates, and the only fee is a percentage of each transaction. Sorry I didn't include that originally

FAIL! GOING TO THE APPLE STORE TO TEST SOMETHING OUT HAHAHAHA

Why don't you try be patient and wait?

Credit card swiper?

It's a credit card processor. (It's been featured on the main page of MacRumors several times). You can accept credit card payments.

Another poster put it, but here's the link: https://squareup.com/features
I dont quite get that. what are you going to sell at the Apple Store?

I don't have an iPad right now so I wanted to see how simple everything was. I talked with the business manager there and she was interested in how it worked, too, so she asked if I could show her.

...thanks? The Apple Store is across the street from my office so it's an easy walk.

Why do people wait in line for the iPad? Why do people wait in line for the iPhone? :apple:

You do know that the square device is also compatible with the iPhone right?

Not worth it, you'll pay more to process it then a regular credit card payment.

Are the rest of Square subscribers getting theirs today too or was this a special deal with Square Up?

1. My sig is out of date... I don't have an iPhone anymore. I do have an iPod Touch though...

2. They have not released the iPhone application yet... although it should be out soon.

Not worth it, you pay more to process it then a regular credit card machine, enjoy paying more!

Someone seems to not done their homework. What does it take to run a credit card if not done by Square? Hmmm.... A merchant account, a credit card processing unit, a monthly fee on a 1 year contract, and that will take you to 1.5-3.5 percent per transaction.

While Square is 2.9 with the card and 3.5 without the card. No merchant account, free card reader, no contract.

Work at a bank maybe?

I've heard that a lot... I just like the simplicity. I don't expect more than $200 in sales through the Square so I will enjoy the lack of monthly fees/minimums.

Seems like there's a lot of hate for the Square...

More replies:
Ditto....good luck getting 1.5 without some serious restrictions and massive dollars.

2.9 with no hassles, contracts, etc is perfect for me. We do a low enough volume in CC that its not worth all the hassle. I can carry this in my bag and when needed plug it in.

I wish mine would show....how long ago did you order yours?

I asked them to send it to me faster and gave them a shipping slip, then they sent it out immediately. Got it within 2 days.

Nice, when are they gonna be available for everyone? Also how are you gonna test it if the app isnt out yet?

They claim that everyone should have their Squares by the end of the month (you can request one by downloading the application then creating an account).

The iPad app is out, the iPhone app is not.

Yeah, you have mixed up, square is 3.0 and up, regular credit less then 3.0.

Why you think theres no extra fees? They gotta get paid and percentage is wheres at.

The app is out for iPad. The reader is available to anyone who signs up. Free of charge too. I'm crazy exited about getting mine, yet I'm not sure why :p

I didnt know about this, thanks for the info, I can use this for my business on my android or ipad, paypal have something similar but the fees are higher, I will give square a try, I dont sell much either using cards but some of the customers can pay me instantly on events etc .

Nice

It is already available and the iPad app is in the App Store. iPhone app will be out in about 2 weeks.

Funny, you didn't either.

I never did period.

You did, so you really wanna prove a point, you have to show two sides...Right now you're just showing the square side that you obviously love so much.

I dont have a point to prove, I just like debating...
