Recently iPhone 6s Plus switch to Galaxy S7 Edge

Hey All,

Thought i'd post my experience, I recently switched to the 6s plus 128gb to the Galaxy s7 edge with 128 gb micro sd.

The first thing that jumped out at me is the design, this phone is so much easier to hold, put in your pocket and it's just beautiful. The 2nd thing that jumped out at me is the screen, it is vibrant and beautiful. When I look at my 6s plus now it looks dull..

In regards to performance I have had zero issues, it's snappy switching apps, opening apps and running like a dream. I'm enjoying the freedom to choose my texting apps, photo and video management apps as well as other apps not available on iPhone.

I also really like the google now integration compared to Siri as well as the wireless charging... In my car my Pioneer stereo is Carplay and Android Auto capable. There is no question, Android auto smokes Carplay and is much more advanced and usable.

I went in a bit skeptical as a long time iPhone user, but Apple is falling behind in innovation. The camera also is quite nice and on par if not better than the iPhone, especially in low light.

Some cons.. This phone is much slippery than iPhone, a case or skin is a must... Also with the edge panels I suspect it's not as resistant to drops as the iPhone, but obviously much better protected from water..

I find the gallery app very lackluster, and I haven't been able to delete photos stored on my Sd card using a third party app, I get an error and have to delete them in Gallery..

I wish the phone had USB-C versus micro-usb, but not a big deal..

Anyway, those are my thoughts, couldn't be happier.

The simple functionality of being able to choose your own default app to launch is one of the reasons why I never looked back from switching my personal device after I went Android.

You really found the S7 to be more slippery than the slippery soap that is the iphone 6 aluminium design?
The iPhone 6 is the first smartphone i have ever dropped.
I wouldve thought glass is less slippery than smooth aluminium.

I want to make the switch but that means dumping my watch too. I can always get another one later on that works with the S7 edge I guess. The thing I am worried about is that years ago I tried a Galaxy s3 and it was terrible. It got really slow and battery would drain in just a few hours of standby. This seemed to be a problem with many Android phones at the time. Is this a non-issue now or will it get slow again?

This really isn't an issue with android flagships these days running newer versions of android.

Common sense practices will keep your Android safe. There's no need for any extra apps or measures. I believe the S7 Edge has security features built into TouchWiz anyway. Regardless, don't install apps from third party websites that aren't familiar, try to install only from the Play Store, and don't click links from strange texts.

I've had Android for some time. I've never encountered a virus or malware. You will be safe.

EDIT: This is the TouchWiz security screen. It's in "Smart Manager" under settings. This along with the aforementioned common sense practices will keep your device safe.

Thanks epicrayban & MRU. When I had the G3 I never installed anything not from the actual Play store. So now the hunt to find one of these things. I only found the Gold ones at a couple of Targets. None anywhere else. I checked everywhere yesterday. Looking for the Silver AT$T s7 Edge.

Silver is a real winner. If you can find it, I'd go for that. I'm glad that's the color choice I went with. You can't go wrong with any color, though!

Man I was trying so hard to convince myself to like the Black as much as I do the silver. Watching reviews and such. Just as I thought I did I see this. lol. Man I really want the silver. I found some ATT stores today who have the black one, and Target has only gold left (they don't even carry silver). Oh well, guess I'll just wait.

For the galery app I would install "Scene". You definitely need need Nova Laucher. I would go with poweramp too...

But I would root it and install "Emoji Switicher", "AdAway" and some other things that I don't remember

Really...really liking the S7 ( tmobile ) I got a few days back.

Pros ( for me, over the iPhone 6S+ )

- Screen
- Ergo
- Battery!! ( 6+ hrs SOT ! )
- Expandable storage
- That rear camera!!
- Water resistant!

I'm sure there's more to discover

Cons ...as of now

- Fingerprint sensor still not as good as the iP6S
- Speakerphone is meh
- Finger print magnet!!
- ( Android related con ) Certain apps like Amex, Chase..etc still not using fingerprint sensor to login is an inconvinience
- Missing Night Shift mode

And one of the main reasons I returned the iPhone 6S after giving iPhone another go. It is annoying when you click on an address and it opens Apple maps instead of Google maps or click on a link and it opens safari instead of chrome.

Why allow users to download alternative apps if they can't then be set as the default?

The inability to set defaults leads to an inconsistent experience, and a less functional and less personal device.

And sadly, even where defaults can be set, such as the keyboard, you still get inconsistencies. Swype does not always appear as the keyboard when I'm using my iPhone, despite having set as such. Apple calls it a security measure to avoid password logging, but when was the last time Swype or Swiftkey or any of the other major third party keyboard makers busted for logging?

Talking of Swype, when using Google Maps on the iPhone and then going to another app, a banner flashes at the top of the screen constantly saying "Google Maps is using your location". The banner then causes the Swype keyboard to fall off the bottom of the screen so much that you can't hit bottom row of keys.

I mentioned this to the guy in the Apple store and he said it was the fault of Swype. I'd argue it was the fault of Apple for having an intrusive banner across the top of the screen.

It seems like Apple just tries to make third-party apps a little bit crap. Like how Chrome is actually a skinned, throttled Safari so it's not as quick as Apple's own browser.

But only if you are not happy with those defaults the iphone comes with. If you have no problem with stock applications then there is a consistency only rivalled by stock android.

Yep, which gets us into the whole Apple-way or highway discussion. I argue that's not very inclusive, especially because Apple fans like to espouse the idea of "personal use."

True. Guess I am just comfortable using both android and iOS and fundamentally my experience on one platform is nearly identical when switching to another doing what I need to do and the apps I use. I don't feel caged in by Apple, and likewise I don't feel the need to change my stock apps on android I generally use main stock apps of whatever android device I have in hand; as its the 'end destination' that I am more interested in - rather than the journey. As long as they all get me what I want I don't care if I took the direct route or the scenic view.

Though must say 90% of my usage is based on apps that are pretty much identical whether android or iOS so again it makes my experience pretty much the same regardless of OS.

Still considering getting an SE though as a small device to complement the plethora of big devices I have and have had the last couple of years.

Would love to read your thoughts on the SE when you get it. By all accounts it should be a beast of a phone. Same A9 processor and internals as the 6s. I think battery life should be outstanding too!

Mine has shipped ... However it shipped from Shenzhen, so will likely be end of next week before it arrives.
