Recommendations for task/to do application?

Looking for suggestions regarding task application for iphone 3G. Transitioning from Palm Treo and though I've had lots of problems with it I do really like the task feature that allows repeating tasks, categories, priority rating, ability to attach notes to tasks and it can be used whether or not there is phone reception (ie on a plane) and it syncs with mac so there is a back up. It's also very easy to use (and free).
Anything out there that's similar?

As close as you will get to that at the moment is OmniFocus, however it isn't free at $19.95 and you can't yet create repeating tasks from the iPhone app plus if you want to sync to the Mac you have to use the desktop version of OmniFocus that sells for $79.95.

There is also Things but that is even less full featured than OmniFocus even though it has a Desktop counterpart there is yet to be any sync between the two.

There are also several free or cheaper task management apps such as iProcrastinate Mobile (created by one of the members on this forum) that are available but unfortunately there just isn't a killer task management app yet for the iPhone, OmniFocus has a lot of potential but is $$$.

I cannot recommend OmniFocus enough!

It is simply incredible and since getting it I have been more productive than ever!

The sync is flawless, the desktop and the iPhone app are both incredible!

I haven't tried out Omnifocus, but I'm using ToDo, and I love it. The only thing missing from your requirement list is repeating tasks, I think. Maybe you can do it, I haven't had a need to yet. Mine syncs up with Toodledo, so there's no need to pay for a desktop version. It works flawlessly, and with the Toodledo integration, I get a daily summary email every morning (which helps out until they get the push notifications). I love the app.

ToDo by Appigo is currently working on adding repeating tasks. I don't work for them, but have had correspondence with them regarding repeating tasks. I really like the program. A little expensive, but worth it.

As of today, there isn't an App that I'm 100% behind. Things has a terrific interface that I have been using on the desktop for over a year. It's clean, simple, manageable. OmniFocus is a lifestyle; even a religion. The cost however? It's a marketing concept with the book, the iPhone App, the desktop app. Does it work? Absolutely. Is it for every persons schedule? Not at $99.

Syncing to desktop is fundamemtal and integration with Mail.app and/or Outlook a necessity.

While I'd like syncing with my desktop, it is not a deal breaker for me. Integration with Mail/Outlook is not important to me either.

Another nice thing about ToDo, is that it has a counter on the icon, like Mail etc., to let you know how many tasks you have that are currently due or overdue.

i dont understand why people dont just use their calender for a to do list??

I mean, you have ALL of the functionality of reminders and such and it CAN run in the background because it is a native app, and it CAN sync with your cpu.. WHY NOT?

The ONLY thing i am dying for is for them to add voice notes to the calender.. THEN i will be happy

I can give another thumbs up to Todo (by Appigo - there are multiple apps with the same name). It works wonderfully on the iPhone itself, and it can sync with both Toododle and Remember the Milk, two great online todo lists.

I don't use iCal for tasks because I don't want my calendar cluttered up with things I have to do. My calendar is for when I have to be someplace at a specific time. My tasks I can do as I have time in the day. Plus, with the calendar there is no way to check it off after I've already done it.

i GUESS that makes sense, but do you REALLY think that you might accidentally do the same thing twice because you didnt check it off??

I guess i prefer to have real time reminders and ALL of my stuff in the one place. If i look at my calender every day, then why not have everything there... I just think its silly to have to open the application every day just to see what you need to do, whent he calender REMINDS you that you need to do it.. and if you dont do it, you just snooze it.

Its not that I think I'll do it again, I just don't want to constantly see it. It is just what works for me.

Yeah but you can't do things like To Do's for a rainy day, like if a friend recommends I check out a band or a book or something I create a To Do to do so, if I used the calendar I would have to assign that to a certain day.

The calendar just doesn't fit the Getting Things Done ideology at all well but if you're not a fan of GTD and you think Calendar suits your needs just fine then don't criticize others for needing a standalone application, sure you can recommend using calendar as an alternative but there is no need to criticize people that prefer more powerful task management software.

I do still think that as an average reminder app, the calender is GREAT, and i use notes for things like "check out this band" or "look at this website" or writing down names of people i need to remember to look up.. Things i dont need a reminder for.

look up My Lists on iTunes. Its very inexpensive ($2.99 i think) and does the job just right. i use it for work and home to-do's and lists.

I love Zenbe as you can sync it with your free zenbe account and you can also got to a website and edit your list there,. but on your phone you can edit it also and view it off line if you did sync. Also you are able to mail your lists to people.

At first they had some questionable stuff in the User agreement but they have changed it since then.

I bought OmniFocus based on positive reviews and I have been using the free trial on the desktop. It works. Period, sync is flawless and the features are great.

I'm not sure I am getting my money's worth, but I'm not exactly sure just how to effectively use it. This is a fault of mine, though. I'm not sold on the whole system yet.

Well I would recommend reading Dave Allen's book GTD - it will really help you understand it fully. Since getting OmniFocus for the iPhone I bought the desktop client and it is now how I run my life and have never been so productive! So I cannot recommend the GTD philosophy with OmniFocus more than I have it is truly incredible!

I have been waiting for a to do / task app that can allow me to:
- sync with my Mac
- prioritize
- set projects
- set categories
- set priorities
- auto repeat
- delegate
- change status: in progress, completed, delegated, waiting on someone
- add notes/links to the task
- tie a contact for email or calling
- set due date
- autoforward / show red status when they are late
- not expensive ~free to $30 max
I just one an app that will allow me to use either the GTD or Franklin Covey methods for organizing and prioritizing the things I have to do.

Anyone knows one that can do this type of things ?

I guess my needs are simple for a GTD program, since all I need and use is iProcrastinate. I don't bother buying other programs, especially OmniFocus, since this kind of program should stay simple and cheap. After all it's just a simple to-do program right? anyway for the busy student, I would recommend iProcrastinate. And don't break the bank for a simple task management. $100 to me feels like alot, since I'm still in high school, but maybe to you, its a trivial amount.

Your needs seem a little too much for a small app, especially on the iPod/iPhone platform. Nevertheless, iProcrastinate has most if not all of the functions you need. Try it, it's free...

I agree that I think that it is a bit overpriced. A better price would be $4.99. But it is a good program.

i COMPLETELY agree with iprocrastinate. The BEST BEST BEST todo app out there.. that blows away the calender and notes together.. It was the only app hthat really make me WANT a todo list app.. now if it had VOICE recognision, i woudl be THRILLED< but i totally suggest anyone checking out that one.
