what exactly is the difference between the two ROM's? Does OS X even support the compute ROM?

I don't have this card, can't tell.

If you want to, you can dump the ROM out to have a look.

Anyway, most likely just ~2% clock difference (e.g. 1366MHz vs 1340MHz), or the fan profile is more aggressive in gaming mode etc.

There is NO difference in macOS support. You can use either ROM you want.

Yes.

I installed a Sapphire RX 580 Pulse 8GB over the weekend. The card comes set to Games. Since I don't, I set it to Compute. So far, it seems to work OK.

I put a few minutes into searching the web for additional information on this setting, but found very little. I think "compute" is for miners. I'm installing the same card for a friend. I'll leave his set to Games and see if there's a difference...:rolleyes:
 
That's all I could find too, bitcoin mining software somehow uses this GPU in this mode to crunch more numbers. I have no idea of anything else at all benefits from compute mode. Good to know that at least its working on OSX.
