Refurbished C2D Macbooks soon? good idea?

I just noticed that first black, now white refurbished macbooks are no longer available for sale on the Apple site. I'd like to buy a C2D macbook for my brother and the refurbished ones look like a good deal.

1. seems like Apple has run out of stock on the CD Macbooks and will be offering C2D now right?

2. i was wondering if there are any issues with the C2D Macbooks that are different from early issues with the CD Macbooks (I have one). Or any reason I shouldn't buy one that's refurbished because it's likely to be from early in the production process or anything like that. I haven't been on the forums in months so I'm out of the loop.

I had a cd mbp and now a c2d mbp, not a mb. But it does appear that the newer gen model is more reliable and has had less issues than the previous gen. I have certainly noticed this with my own experiences.

So the C2d mb would be an excellent unit to get, but i am always wary of the refurb models, b/c there is a chance that that unit had some previous issues b4 it was repaired by apple (or returned by another customer w/out any probs, but how would u ever really know this info?)

So unless the cost is a major factor, i would just spend a few more bucks and get a brand new one. You will know what you are getting at least.....

Refurb models are a great choice for anyone that isn't concerned about paying more JUST to get a brand new one. As the name infers, these computers (or other devices) have been refurbished (To make clean, bright, or fresh again; renovate.), and function just as well as a new one does, but has a head start on any minor case blemishes. They come in a plain brown box, not the image covered boxes of the new models, and they come with a full year of coverage AND an option to get Applecare.

The CD MB's are currently gone from the refurb store, but they've been disappearing and reappearing for weeks now, as have the CD and C2D MBP's. I've been hoping to see C2D MB's for the past month or 2, but haven't seen them yet, so I hope you're right about this being the week for them to start showing up.

There are plenty of threads on C2D performance, and even comparisons to CD models, but the C2D is a Rev B, not a Rev A, so it's pretty safe to assume Apple has made some progress.

Let the folks who have plenty of cash insist on a virgin-keyboard and trackpad, and then smile knowing that you save $100's(?) of dollars buying one that still has Apple's name behind it. If you find anything wrong with it in the first year, Apple will fix it.

So, what's the downside?

Refub machines are great, in addition you get nice little presents in there sometimes as well. For instance, I got an upgraded processor and video card in my 20" c2d. I would wait till you see c2d mb's in the refurb store. BUt that's just my opinion

FWIW, another vote to wait and acquire a refurb C2D machine.

I bought a new white MB couple months ago, at same time a refurb 24" C2D iMac - and both are equally wonderful in their own way. As soon as the refurb 20" C2D iMacs [w/ 10.5 ] are available, there will be one of those here too.

Not sure on how old you brother is, but the educational prices are pretty similar to the refurbished ones. Just in case you didn't realize that might be an option.

I would consider buying a refurb - but my Homeschool pricing is too close to not buy new.

True, but see, the refurbished computer has been through quality control TWICE, and if it was returned for any problems, those problems were fixed. So in theory, the refurbished computers would be less likely to have problems than a brand new computer.

I saw these this morning. I was wanting a C2D refurb but it's a little over my budget so I finally placed my order on a white 2.0GHz Core Duo MacBook refurb. My first mac ever, I'm very excited.

Up the RAM to 2GB, if not already.
Read/study the guides here.
Read/study the MB and other helpful threads here.
Acquire Pouge's "OS X Missing Manual" book, but,,, with the understanding that it is slightly outdated - various apps for example have changed.
Keep a log in a paper notebook of all significant items that you d/l, change, when, etc.
Many recommend that not to use the admin account, create user account(s).
Turn on your firewall if not on a router.
Buy a carrying case that doesn't look like a computer carrying case - decrease potential for theft.
Keep all s/w up-to-date.

I got a tracking number too, but it says estimated ship date is the 25th (Thursday).

I dont think it lets you upgrade a refurbshied mb I was trying to find an option like that but i couldnt find it. And upgrading ram is easy. Instructions on upgrading the ram for the macbook
