The refurbished Blackbook C2D is tempting...$100 cheaper than a brand new one with educ. discount. I want to go for the refurb but its going to take a week before it gets shipped out while a new one will ship within 24 hrs...-sighs-

But with that 100 dollars you could get upgrade the ram or get a case. Unless you want the new blackbook

True...I would have to wait basically 2 weeks to receive the refurb or 1 week for a new. I may just go for the new cause all my classes are hybrids...both online and in the lecture hall :(

You might get it sooner, mine originally said 5-8 days before ship, but a few hours after ordering it it was already picked up by fedex with tracking info

How does the MB look? Like brand new or visible scratches? No dead pixels?

The macbook itself looks PERFECT. No dead pixels, i havent examined it under bright light with magnifying glass but to the touch and under decent light everything looks good. The extension power cord looks like it may have been used before(Has some kind of dry hexagon shaped paper on the wire??) but i don't think i will be using that one anyways(It still works though!). The regular power adapter is perfect. The only thing that scared me is when i first opened everything the protective plastic around everything, the MB, AC Adapters was very dusty and i was almost angry until i took it off and saw the pristine condition of the plastic.
Woohoo refurbs!

WOW I hope that happens to mine. Small hd size was a big reason that I was regretting getting the refurb.

What is the return policy on a refub MacBook? Is it the standard 2 weeks with a 15% restocking fee? Also, has anyone received their C2D refurb in the original box, or is it guaranteed to come in the brown box. Is there any reason I should spend an extra $55 to get a new MacBook (white 2.0) from Amazon ($1300 - $75 rebate compared to $1099 with 6.5% saless tax)?

I believe it is 2 weeks with a 10% restock fee.

Amazon doesn't charge tax so it is actually the same price (after rebate) for a new MB from Amazon and a refurb MB from Apple.

Thanks for the help so far phungy! You've been all over my questions.

Anyways...
MacBook from Amazon $1300 - $75 = $1225
MacBook refurb $1100 + 6.5% tax = $1170

If you don't messing with a rebate from Apple, buy the refurb and a $100 printer and sell the printer on Ebay or here for 50-80bucks. You get a rebate for purchasing a printer and an Apple computer at the same time. That'll drop the price of your purchase more if you order from Apple. Another good thing about ordering from Apple refurb is there might be a chance you get a hidden upgrade ie ram or HDD.

Just tossing that out there.

My bad, I stated incorrectly and I was thinking of the Blackbook.

Blackbook from Amazon $1500 - $100 rebate = $1400
Blackbook from Apple (educ. discount) $1400 + 6.5% tax = $1500
Blackbook refurb from Apple $1300 + 6.5% tax = $1400

I'm in this dilemma too. Since a new MB from Amazon is the same as a MB refurb from Apple. But refurbs go through quality control twice and possibility of free upgrades, but can have dead pixels.

Yeah, I'll probably just go with the refurb and save the $55. I have enough money, but I don't want to spend more than necessary.

I didn't think that you could get anything lower that a 80gb hd and 1 gig with the 2.0ghz model? Or did it just say that on the refurb information that it came with a 60 gb hd and 512 mb of ram? Either way, celebrate. you just got a mb.

Edit: You got the CD not the C2D right? That would be why then.

Yes it was a CD refurb. The refurb listing said it would come with 512MB ram and a 60GB hard drive. Everything looks and feels brand new. :)

can you get an edu discount with the refurbs?

Actually, students and members of the military and employees of the federal government (US) do get Applecare at a discounted price when buying refurb gear and occasionally (like this past Christmas) the Military/Federal refurb site had additional discounts on select models, (one MBP model was $300 less than the same refurb offered on the main and EDU refurb sites).

It pays to look around for every possible deal right before you buy.

Cheers,
