The moderators/administrators discussed this thread today, and the decision has been made not to reopen the thread, i.e., not to make an exception to our "no game threads" policy. We understand that some members will be disappointed, so I will explain our reasons.
We know that picture threads can be entertaining and we don't like to shut down popular threads. Threads in which members post pictures of desktops, setups, cars, themselves, etc. have generally not been a problem. But game threads, in which posts are based on the previous post, typically cause spamming, and that's one of the reasons that they are disallowed by policy. The last time there was a picture association thread (in 2005), some members made very clever associations, but it also caused a number of problems, including members who spammed, complaints and hurt feelings, and some inappropriate images that the moderators had to remove, breaking the chain of associations.
Overall, the negatives greatly outweigh the positives. Threads that rapidly accumulate posts can dominate the New Posts and Forum Spy displays, are used by members to build up post counts without putting much thought into posts, and require a lot of moderator time.
You will still find many open picture threads in the
Picture Gallery forum.
