Do you think the wifi issue is grounds for getting the restocking fee waived? Or will they just claim it is a software issue and make me pay it?

what is wrong with peoples wifi? I got an old linksys router wireless b/g and don't have any wifi issues at all. I also just got finished playing COD Zombies for like an hour online and had a blast.

You won't know untill you try but I suspect they tell youth problem is w/ 3rd party hardware or that a firmware fix is coming.

The Wifi Problems may all be related to borderline N implementations in home routers. When I first got an Asus EEE with 802.11-n I had nothing but grief over it's Wifi connection to my n capable d-link. What eventually fixed it was me turning off the N radio in the d-link's firmware.

If your router supports N, first see if there is a firmware update for it. If not, see if you can disable the N part, leaving B and G functionality.

They won't charge you a restocking fee bc it's defective but they will exchange then. If you don't want an exchange or in store credit they will charge the restocking fee.

i took mine in, and since it was an issue with my router they charged the 10% restocking fee. really lame considering it works with everything but the ipad

I returned mine yesterday

And I didn't get charged a restocking fee. I got mine from Best Buy. Told them I had Wi-Fi issues. They went to the back and checked and see if there were any viable solutions and there wasn't. So, they took it back. It was weird because he didn't have time to check it out, so he just said, "return it. it is a problem."

I'm about to find out. My WiFi connection is great at home, where my network is all Apple routers. But I get terrible connections at my office and at two different Starbucks locations - even though my MBA gets a great connection at all those places. This device is borderline useless to me.

You should definitely be able to waive the restocking fee. Be firm about it. If they refuse, just turn it over to your credit card company and let them sort it out. They can't legitimately charge you a fee for returning a defective product.

That being said, I love my iPad even though the wireless is a bit flooky. I'll give it some time to allow Apple to figure it out.

I don't know but a lot of them are pretty testy about their WiFi issues.
I haven't had any problems either. Connected just fine with an airport network and a linksys router.

If that was the only reason you brought it back why wouldn't you have just kept it and waited for a fix thus saving you from losing the 10% restocking fee? Sounds like you brought it back for other reasons and wanted to use that as your excuse to not have to pay the fee

I'm taking mine in tomorrow to refund, and order the 3G, hoping that the wifi issues don't exist on that unit.

it's just not fair to ask us to change all of our router settings for a fix. not convenient when visiting an office, or a friends house. Can you imagine having to ask everyone to remove WPA on their routers, or restarting them etc?

Maybe there will be a fix, but i'd rather be sure inside my 14 days then to keep wasting time having to do hacks to get this to work consistently.

I love my ipad, i really do, and it's gonna suck not having one for 2 weeks, but alas, peace of mind is probably best.

I have a genius bar appt tomorrow, and i hope they waive the restocking fee along with reserve a 3G for me.

So you spent $50 to return it because your router sucks, when you could have taken that $50 and bought a proper router?

Before you buy that cheap router, check the reviews! Many knock-off routers are horrendous with compatibility, especially with N implementations

I don't think it's fair that we have to replace routers to get the ipad to work. You can't expect this to be a fix. and I'm shocked they are charging restocking fees for a defective item.

It's only defective if you don't have the proper router and setup.

That's not an accurate assessment. I have a very common Linksys N160 Router that works flawlessly with a myriad of wireless devices from many different companies (including an iPod and MacBook Pro), and my iPad struggles with it. The problem is entirely with the iPad, not the wireless setup, and I am confident Apple will figure it out and fix it.

i honestly know nothing about routers, and the guy told me it would need the $150 apple one. so i said f that and returned it. now i feel like a fool! haha. they checked it out in the store and it had no problems. I was gonna keep it and wait, but why keep something that doesnt work when i can upgrade to the 3g in a month and have internet if this one doesnt work.

Gonna have to call this out as a ridiculous statement. Imagine buying a PC and then HP tells everyone in order for it to work you have to buy an HP router and every coffee shop, library, office etc you visit you have to ask them to turn off security, reboot their router or buy an specific router? Just seems a bit apple fanboy to think that this is a solution. If it were PC no way people would be this patient.
Wifi is a standard protocol that even apple has to abide by.

Sorry, but you are dead wrong.

So have them swap it out for a brand new replacement/exchange. Not every Wifi iPad has Wifi issues you know.

The problem is, look at all of these ****ing scumbags who are using the "the wifi is broke" excuse so they can: A) Return the ipad because of buyers remorse for whatever damn reason. B) Trade up for the latest/greatest (ipad 3g). If people wanted the 3G from the start, why the **** would you waste time and get a Wifi only model from the start.

****ing prima-donna's have to sample the latest/greatest.

By being a prima-donna you've caused the international delay as well as the scarce domestic supply by buying something you knew full well that you were going to return for the better 3G model coming out.

Now people who legitimately wanted the Wifi model are going to have to wait longer now because of you prima-donna's.
