Blobs don't do anything for A5 devices. Even if you have them saved, you still can't restore a firmware apple is no longer signing (at least not on a 4S or 5).

Yes we know, and that was also the case when 5.x came out and a lot of people missed out on the downgrade and re-restore possibilty that later came out needing those blobs.

ALWAYS save your blobs!

Please don't post about sidegrades or downgrades unless you actually KNOW what you're talking about. I'm tired of seeing people immediately dismissing this question with canned misinformed responses!

First of all, here's how it works:
On pre-A5 devices, with SHSH blobs you can restore to any version you have the blobs.

On post-A5, IT DEPENDS.

As of today, 6.1.2 doesn't have a re-restore, but OTHER VERSIONS DO.

If you want re-restore for iOS 6, you should probably get on redsn0w developers for it, ask them about it.

The reason I'm saying this is because when you blindly dismiss ANYONE and just say stupid canned responses like, 'DERP ONLY A4 DEVICES CAN RESTORE DERP DERP' people will assume that's true absolutely when it's not.

It's true that, on iOS6, as of now, you can't downgrade/restore same iOS on A5 devices. But that fact COULD change if redsn0w is updated to support iOS6 with re-restore.

What we need, is a way to restore without iTunes. On android, you just flash the whole freakin thing in recovery. I used to change ROM, kernel, and firmware all the time...I really wish the iPhone had this ability. It would be revolutionary!

:apple: For restoring :apple: iPhone and not updating the firmware-

---First download the IOS 6.1.2 IPSW for iPhone 5 From-
http://www.ipswdownloader.com/download-iphone-ipsw-files.php

---Then---
Create A Folder and Name it Pwnage

Download the latest version of RedSn0w fromhttp://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=16424 and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the firmware you would like to restore to and the firmware you are current on from here and place it/them in the Pwnage folder.

Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.

Step Two
Right click or control-click the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier and choose Open from the popup menu that appears.

Step Three
Click Extras from the main menu.

Step Four
Click Even More from the Extras menu.

Step Five
Click Restore from the Even More menu.

Step Six
Click IPSW from the Restore menu, choose the IPSW you would like to restore to from the window that appears, and click Open.

Step Seven
Redsn0w will prompt you to connect your device. Do so, then click the Ok button.

Step Eight
If you need to point RedSn0w to another firmware ipsw it will ask you to do so. If you are re-restoring the same firmware version, RedSn0w will check Cydia to see if you have the correct blobs saved.

If RedSn0w is unable to find your blobs automatically you can try to click the Remote button to try again or you can click the Local button to search for blobs on your computer.

Step Nine
RedSn0w will place your device into recovery mode.

You may be asked to acknowledge that this procedure will update your Baseband. Click Yes to continue or No to stop.

RedSn0w will now restore your iPhone.

Step Ten
You'll be informed when your restore has completed successfully.
