So I’ve been rocking a ProMax for as long as they existed. Upgraded from 16promax.

Bit the bullet and thought I would try the Air. I’m always about thing/light, and I would say the ProMax has been getting chunky every year.

However, after only 2 days with the Air, I’m still torn on this device. Anyone else considering returning theirs? I have 2weeks to decide.

Things that are irking me:

Single camera, I thought I could get away with it, but yesterday after being outside and taking some photos, I noticed right away I miss the .5x so I don’t have to walk back to get a certain shot. Also my pics seem more blurry now, not sure if there is something in ProMax that was dealing with my hand moving while taking a photo?

Speakers - I think I can live with this downgrade, you definitely notice the difference, the base is almost non-exsistant and you can tell audio is coming from one side, but it’s not horrible.

Battery - on Saturday my 1st full day, off the charger at 6am, and was out of juice at around 6pm. I had the battery pack so I filled up there and also in car that evening. ProMax usually gets me 1.25ish days on no charge. However again, i would say I can also live with this downgrade. - I would say borderline acceptable. But after some time and charge cycles when battery is wore out, tihs will be unusable.

So in conclusion, the camera is my deal killer for me and I can’t see to get over that hump.

Anyone with an Air considering returning and getting the ProMax??
Really just seems like you made up your mind already and that's cool man do what you feel is the best choice.

Never going to get rid of the air myself. The cameras and LIDAR are the two biggest TBDs for my work. Going to see how well the air holds up and if I can do without them. But definitely 0 interest in going into an aluminum iPhone pro. Worst case I’d keep my 16 pro as a secondary device for all that the air lacks. But I think this is the new line I’m sticking to for day to day use

Currently trying out the iPhone Air in Space Black. I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max. I’m still undecided at the moment, but if I had to pick, I am still learning primarily to the Air. I’ve honestly never needed the Pro phones and only got them due to certain features that were only found on those models. Same with the Camera; I thought if I had these ‘pro’ features, I’d become a good photographer lol.

Holding the iPhone Air and using it gives a much different, newer experience as silly as it sounds. I feel like it’s been the same thing since the iPhone 12/13/14, etc and now it feels like a new experience. I’m also going caseless and screen protector-less (I was already doing the same with my 16 Pro Max).

I ordered the Air and collected on launch day. I have always had the larger phones so I was really trying to love the smaller display on the Air but it was just too small for my liking. Thankfully I had also ordered a Pro Max which I collected on Saturday and returned the Air on Sunday. If the display had of been larger I probably would have kept it. Shame really.

That’s interesting. I feel like I cannot feel a difference in display size interaction between my Air and 16 Pro Max. But you’re probably more aware of it. If I hold them next to each other, I definitely see a difference.

Returned the 17 pro for the air coming from 13 mini. 17 pro felt like a brick to me since I’ve had the mini for the past 4 years. Battery life was a improvement from the mini to air.

Solid choice ! My mother has the 12 mini has carpal tunnel and can’t have a heavy phone . Her phone is shot earpiece /battery and camera are on fritz since summer I told her to wait till September I’m glad she did she’s gonna love the air

I'm in the opposite camp.

I have the 17 Pro and I tried the Air, my world got flipped upside down and now I want to keep the Air and return the 17 Pro.

Will I miss the Pro cameras and better battery? Yes, but the feel of holding and carrying an Air is unreal. When I pick up my 17 Pro, it feels so thick, dense and heavy and unpleasant. Def got spoiled by the Air.

Protip: Don't pick up an Air if you want to keep your current phone cause once you do, it's hard to go back.

My main worry before I got the Air was that it would be way too big (I think the standard Pro size is too big, FWIW). When you actually use it in hand, it feels great due to the thinness, and the concerns I had around usability went away. Even the regular size pro is too large for one-hand typing, so the extra 0.3" didn't really change that in a large way.

Camera is probably the thing I care about the least, it still takes bar selfies on a night out just fine. I don't have 4 kids or professionally photograph weddings, so lack of SLR features is meaningless. The mono speaker is a funny complaint, I don't understand who is trying to use the phone speaker as their main house speaker and expecting good results. Battery has actually surprised me, it's much better than my 15 Pro and I'm already accustomed to charging that 2-3 times daily, so I've actually had to charge this phone less.

If your always about light the Promax is never that

Anyway regardless of that the air will have limitations compared to other phones and certainly the pros

I tested the air in the shop and the camera appeared ok, until I took the same pictures on the pro. Zooming in on the detail it wasn't there and put it 100% off the air....Its years behind

The standard pro is the best middle ground this year
I thought the same until setting the Air to 48mp. It is a serious upgrade to the zoom-in quality.

Apple should have made the Air a tiny but thicker to add the ultrawide camera and stereo speakers like the Samsung Edge. Hey maybe 2nd or 3rd gen will get those

I’d bet my bottom dollar the next Air will have a better camera system and stereo speakers. I also think we can learn from the iPad range where Apple gives the Airs last year’s Pro features. Obviously size isn’t such an issue on the iPads so I’m not saying the Air will have everything the Pro has, but I suspect it will work harder to earn its placement between base and Pro phones.

It has never been so difficult to choose a new iPhone this year. Will upgrade from the 15 PM, I always get the Max. But this year, the 17 PM starts to be really big, and the fragile aluminum is not encouraging. I never use a case, I like to enjoy the design. Tried both in the store. The Air looks so much better in my opinion, and feels great in the hand. But there are many hardware compromises. I can live with the reduced battery life, mono speaker, and lack of telephoto. The only feature I'd truly miss is the macro which I sometimes use as a magnifying glass.
I don't get why titanium is even an issue for the Pro models since it's only on the edge. It feels more like a cost-cutting move than anything else. It just looks cheaper now, and might dent like crazy even without dropping it.

I like the air so much that I’m worried that it’s only called “iPhone Air” and not “Air 17”.

Because next year when the new phones drop, and Air is still the same, I’m gonna still be on it. Sorta like those mini cult people.

You can always attach a secondary camera to the Crossbody Strap ;)

Honestly, that's my only complaint with the Air. Really need that wide angle lens!

Not really..everyone who bought the orange pros… that novelty will possibly wear off in a few weeks (or after Halloween) as well and they will be bored of their color choice

This is precisely why I didn’t go with it. I knew I’d like it for a week or two, my partner would love it because of Halloween and the Mets. And then I’d be stuck with an orange phone.

I went with a 17pm in deep blue and I’m pretty happy with it.

The actual math doesn't agree with you unfortunately. Maybe it's something subjective.

iPhone Air: 2.51 g/cm³

iPhone 17: 2.08 g/cm³

iPhone 14 Pro Max: 2.45 g/cm³

What’s really odd. Is supposedly my iPhone 17pm is heavier than my 16pm. Yet the 17pm feels lighter to me.
