Yes that's right. Apple sends special 'display' models for a slick game of bait n switch. Smart Apples ;).

They sell the junk to the suckers after they see the good stuff.

After reading these threads, some of these more impressionable people are going feel like they were robbed, and go back and demand that they give them the "good stuff'.

:D Thanks for the post and trying to inject a bit of sanity back to this "issue". I had a good chuckle after I read it.

It seems that the 2011 MBA with Samsung SSD and the Samsung display is the Unicorn MBA. We must all search for the unicorn!

You're a moron. I have an LG and all my blacks look black.
I bet if I put two screens side by side you couldn't choose which one is which.

Fanboy.

Sorry, are you calling me a samsung fanboy, or are you admitting you're an apple fanboy? :p

And as I had posted earlier, showing black text on a white background on the two screens side by side, there was a difference. My blackshirt Mark could see it immediately. I don't know, maybe you bought your air to look at the picture of the milky way all day.:D

The LG is a lot brighter screen. I could easily use it at 40% brightness, the samsung needs to be at 60% or it is unusable. I'll take the tradeoff. And I'll admit 'grey' was an exaggeration on my part to make my point. It was more like a faded black, like a document that had been xeroxed a couple of times vis a vis coming fresh off a good laser printer.

All right, all right. I'm giving up the crusade. Fine. As long as we love the ones we're with, that's the important part, right? Sorry for messing with you coolbreeze, I was just having too much fun.

Ok, let's get more serious. So you mean LG is a better panel at outdoor use since it's a brighter display overall?

Actually, if you're referring to faded black, I can see what you mean especially when reading texts here at MR.

A simple zoom in of the webpage will make the texts larger and bold, and more black than it is at native zoom.

Anything that should appear black is black enough to my eyes.

That is my experience with using both displays. Surfing typing in the house, and going to my shaded (but brighter) back porch, I have to crank up the brightness on the Samsung where I didn't on the LG.

What I did was to open up word processing documents on both screens side by side in the apple store and compare them using different fonts and sizes. But it would be interesting if some sort of safari/colorsync interaction was causing a lot of my issues. (That and my old, failing eyes.)

Just wanted to mention that in the case of the late 2010 Macbook Air the general consensus was that LTH panels (9CF0) were inferior in terms of contract to LP panels (9CDF). The labelings in brackets are the same ones as for the new generation, so I'm beginning to think that Apple is using the same two displays, just this time people seem to think the LG ones are inferior.

Go figure...
