I liked my iPad soooo much that I returned it yesterday.

I found myself taking it with me almost everywhere and a lot of times wifi wasn't available. For example, I took my son to an orthodontist appointment that lasted 45 minutes or more and I took out my iPad and no wifi. All I could think was "Damn, I'm hooked already!".

Anyway I can't wait to pick up my 3G as soon as it's released.

Just thought I would share.

14 more days or less hopefully

Two weeks from now is April 23rd. Hopefully sooner!! I got antz in my pantz and wanna play with the damn iPad already!!! Wished the iPhone OS 4.0 would come sooner, too!! Planning on getting the next iPhone as well. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):p:apple:

just got my 16gb, hooked it up to my jailbroken 3GS, opened up mywi.. and omg.. it's awesome!!! So yeah, if you guys can jailbreak.. DO IT! and save 129+$30 a month :D

Alchematron,

I knew it too, but the morning of the release my wife asked me if I was going down to pick one up and I said "No, I am waiting and saving.". That is when she said "I have some extra money in checking if you want to get it today.".

I am glad that I am a "Best Buy Silver Premier member" so the return was quick and easy with no restocking fee.

You definitely have made the right decision to wait!

I am struggling there too, but I fall back on the fact that I can jailbreak my phone or my wife's phone, and use that to tether. Then there is always the "what are other companies offering."

One thing I didnt ask... if 3G isnt available, will it use the EDGE signal instead?

ml2k1, I thought about doing that but I read many people saying that you will be lucky if you get 2 hours of tethering from your iPhone.

I figure if I am going to spend 700 to 800 dollars (64GB) for a device that should last me 3 years or more, I shouldn't skimp and pass on a feature that increases the functionality dramatically like 3G.

I HATE the feeling of regret!!! :(

If you're a premier silver member you could have held on to it until the 3g version actually came out - how come you didn't go that route?

3 years? I'll be upgrading as soon as v2 comes out. I decided on wifi because if I leave the iPhone I can tether plus it only works on 3G not edge. I figure I will still use my phone for tasks in the even that wifi is not available. I really don't feel like giving AT&T more money each month.

I had the opposite experience. I went I the dentist, then an Endodontist, then got my haircut, then a cafe and I had wifi everywhere!

I think you need a new dentist!:p

The wonders of wireless tethering. Personally I opted for the wifi because I already pay close to 250 bucks monthly on internet access.

My nexus one & my wifes iphone + plus comcast business plan @ home. (Plus would hate the fact that im giving att more money for pathetic service)

Adding another 30 bucks internet device was a no go for me.

Have you considered tethering? Phones dating back to 2003 are capable of doing it. Even dumbphones.

edit:sorry just read your reply towards tethering :)

gillybean,

Good question. The answer = I'm paranoid.

I was taking it everywhere and I was worried that I would put a scratch or do some other minor damage that would prevent me from returning it. I am very careful but everywhere I took it, EVERYONE needed to hold and touch it and that worried me.

Also, I purchased it with my Visa, two gift cards and Best Buy rebate coupons and I wanted to give everything time to be credited back. The rebate credit will take up to two weeks.

Yeah, just what I need.

Another bill for a service for an Apple product.

As if my O2 bill, Mobile Me bill and iTS bills (for music, apps, movies, television) aren't enough.

I think I can live with the connectivity of my iPhone when I am not near a Wifi spot, and here in London with BTFON, I can get to a WiFi spot pretty easily most of the time.

I can now, however, leave my iPhone at home when I travel abroad.

Ditto.

Once the 3G iPads have been released, the resale value of WiFi-only iPads is going to drop faster than Palm's stock price. :) There will be too many on the used market!

I predict there will be a lot of regret threads like this one.

The hardest part about waiting for the 3G was the first day--reading here about everyone getting their Wifi Only iPads. The next day it wasn't so bad, and by the third day I was back to normal. Don't get me wrong, normal means I am still anxious but it's nothing like it was on the first day.

The funny thing is reading all the fun here on the first day is what convinced me that I need to wait for the 3G. I knew that once I got my hands on it I'd want to take it everywhere and not be limited.

frankjl,

As far as tethering goes I hear your lucky if you get more than 2 hours from an iPhone.

I think I have bad luck when it comes to wifi. When I stay at a hotel I always make sure that they offer wifi and the last two hotels it didn't work out.

One place said "Oh sorry that is only available in the other wing of our hotel."

The other said "Sorry it doesn't reach our room, just sit outside the office and it will work just fine."

A 3G iPad would have been AWESOME!

i think i might end of keeping the wifi version.

If the ipad is suppose to be a netbook replacement. Then netbooks don't have 3g and i'm pretty sure alot of people here have Iphones. We play 30 bucks a month for the iphone data plan. If I got to a doctor, i'm not bringing my ipad, just like I wouldn't bring my netbook. In that case, i would just bust out my iphone and do some quick browsing.

Not to mention 4.0 will make the iphone so much more tolerable than before.

I tether with my sprint touch pro 2 all day long and i t works great. Im posting from my ipad thether right now actually

That's the reason I don't see myself getting the 3G version unless I cut something else.

We're getting to the point that we have to ask ourselves... how many "different" internets are we paying for?

For me:
1) Home internet
2) Apartment @ school internet
3) BlackBerry data plan

So an iPad 3G seems to be overkill. The good thing is that there are no contracts so you can just get the 3G, and turn on the internet when you need it. The bad thing is that I can probably convince myself that I need it all the time if I really wanted to. Another 30 dollars down the drain :p

That is my only concern with the 3G. Oh well, for me it is better than the regret of needing internet access and not having any options.

I had the opposite. Went to disney last month. I had my macbook but they had no wifi. I had my iphone which I could tether my laptop with but the ATT Service in the room was spotty as hell! So I was screwed on multiple levels. I think im going to get the Wifi model and just tether with my phone. Battery life wont matter cause most of the time Ill be near a plug anyway. Screw paying ATT twice for the same spotty coverage. I hope the 3g ipad motivates verizon to offer their Mifi at $30 a month with no contract lol id be all over it.
