After using it and realizing how "broken" it is, with no true push support (IMAP-IDLE, Yahoo uses a special "iPhone" only method), no background chat program, lousy voice+data plan from at&t, and lousy service where I am at, isn't worth 600 + 80/mo.

I really look forward towards revision 2, hoping they will fix the plethora of problems that are in the iPhone.

I needed true push support, background aim app that is run off data, 3g speeds, be able to watch flash, have music (2gig is enough for me), and make a call, all at the same time.

Plus the fact that Apple doesn't support 64 bit OS with iTunes is just laziness. Isn't Leopard suppose to be 64 bit? lol..

apple. I should of known.

this is ridiculous. i've seen everyone bitch about the iPhone's shortcomings. this has nothing to do with americans vs. europeans vs. the entire rest of the world, it's that people are expecting more features but aren't getting them.

I'm fairly sure you are going to be bitching about the shortcomings of the iPhone when you get yours eventually.

I love my iPhone, but at the same time I hate some of the trivially basic things it lacks in comparison to other phones and smartphones. This is a forum where I can discuss topics like that. If you don't like it, don't reply to it.

The iPhone is very nice piece of kit, no doubt about it. That said it does have some fairly major shortcomings. Shortcomings which would keep me from buying.

Nationality has nothing to do with complaints about it, let's keep the Yankee/Euro bashing out of it huh.

I agree.

What is more, unless people complain about the shortcomings, they won't be addressed.

Consumer pressure often results in an improved product.

And obviously forums such as these are gathering places for people who wish to discuss and complain about said shortcomings. I was aware of almost all of them before I purchased my iPhone, but that does not mean I can't complain about things that could be added software-wise, or about lack of certain hardware that could make it to a later revision that I might upgrade to later on.

Actually, yes, you should have known. All of the "issues" you mention were well-known and much discussed before the iPhone's release. 10 minutes of research would have saved you some time and money.

yea, didnt we all know the phone wouldnt have 3G network or support flash? Or did we think it was kind of a maybe and we needed to spend money to make sure of the fact....

That was just in addition to the other problems.

No doubt the iPhone is a UNIQUE and BREAKTHROUGH device, just wish it covered the BASICS while doing the unique and breakthrough.

I'll definitely be in line for revision 2, hopefully by then the basics will have been covered.

I don't know why people complained about the keyboard, it worked great for me, but the basics just didn't step through.

Stating your needs and hoping that they are added as a feature in the 2nd generation is something, buying a product in the release day without enough investigation and bitching about it in the day after while calling Apple "stupid" is something else..

Satisfying different needs of different consumer types is almost impossible and I think Apple did a phenomenal job there.

So the 755p does more than the iPhone overall does it?

And I suppose you completely forgot about Software Updates. Oh well, it's your choice.

I kinda agree with the above posts though, it is irritating to see loads of complaints from the USA about how it doesn't have 'such and such' tiny feature, and how this tiny little thing is missing, and yet here in the UK it's next to impossible to even pick up emails at all on a phone.

Americans do like to complain. Then select a group of those who sought out a message board and you have a group with a high likelihood of complaining.

I'm half english so I'm sort of sensitive to the differences in culture and at times it is pretty amusing.

And long may they do so.

Constructive criticism gets things done!

The amount of complaints that could be called "constructive" are in the vast minority.

A running recitation of the features you wanted but are not present is a selfish request for turning the iPhone into the mePhone.

This thread is becoming pointless.
Its true. It's a shame too. I'm not sure why the thread was started either. Someone says they're returning their iPhone and these are their reasons. People notice all of their reasons were known before the phone even went on sale, yet they still bought it (if they did). At the end of the day, where's a thread like this to go? As the majority of iPhone buyers actually knew what they were buying, most are satisfied for one reason or another, and can either be articulate or dismissive in explaining why. A thread like this seems odd.

EnderTW, is there anything you would like to know? I'm not clear what you were looking to do with this thread, except bash the company most here really like. Sounds pointless.

I really look forward towards revision 2

Of course you do, because by then the long term contract you signed with another carrier - that prevented you from buying the first iPhone - will have expired, and you will finally be able to join in on the fun which is owning this phone.

Apple's not making a phone for just you...and did you say you want to listen to music, and make a call at the same time?

Plus the fact that Apple doesn't support 64 bit OS with iTunes is just laziness. Isn't Leopard suppose to be 64 bit? lol..
.

Ya, I got sync my iPhone and it NEVER syncs with 64Bits Tiger at all

apple. I should of known.

You should have, most of the things you complain about, you knew about preiPhone launch. 3G, Flash, AIM support, Push Support....

Wow, you still have time to post to Macrumors, while you're watching Flash, listening to your music, chatting in the background, making a call, and having your mail pushed to you instantly all at the same time...

Count your fingers.. Did you get past ten?

(I'm assuming the original post was a joke. Please tell me I was right!)

I came from a Sprint Treo 700p. I'm not sure where you are coming from.

1) The Treo doesn't have true push email either, you have to use Goodlink.

2) The ATT plan is $5 more than Sprint. I agree, it's for less service since the iPhone isn't 3G, but the Blazer browser compensates for that since it crashes every two seconds, and frankly reading the Web on a Treo is murder. EDGE has been fast enough where I've used it, Wi-Fi is blazing. Hey, the Treo doesn't have Wi-Fi, does it? Mine didn't.

3) iChat is rumored to be coming in the next few weeks. Non issue.

4) Very few apps DO support Vista 64bit. The iPhone/iTunes will support Leopard (yes 64bit and 32bit in the same package), but who uses Vista 64bit. Not too many consumers. Non issue.
