Well with your previous comment it is pretty obvious where I was coming from!

given just how many 64bit machines are floating around nowadays.

Apple doesn't care about how many people have 64-bit processors. They care about how many people have 64-bit OS, they wont dedicate a massive amount of resources to get iTunes running on 64-bit windows if there is only a very small percentage of people using it. Once Microsoft decides to make 64-bit window mainstream Im sure apple will have 100% iTunes support! But if Microsoft wont even support it, what incentive does that give apple (I am referring to the Zune launch)

Rumor has it that Vienna(2009 supposedly) is 64-bit only.

Apple doesn't care about how many people have 64-bit processors....
You realize your reasoning is the same as a lot of software vendors out there? I get the financial POV, but otherwise it's pretty frustrating and sad.

"Oh the Mac OS X market share is too small. I'm going to stop/not consider/ignore Mac software development for our product". Or "Oh it's too much effort making x app Intel compatible right now..."

Yeah, it's why I can't play upcoming games like Crysis on my Mac without rebooting into Windows or using my PC, among other applications.

edit: On a sidenote, almost every single version of Windows Vista supports 64bit processors and is 64bit (the only one that doesn't is starter edition I believe). Leopard is also going to be almost all 64bit itself, and obviously Tiger and Leopard both work on c2ds that Apple sells. If that's not some sort of commitment from both Microsoft and Apple to support current technologies, I don't know what else is.

I am quite content with the software availability for OS X, that is why I use it. If there was a program that only worked on windows that I needed, then I would use windows.

likewise if there was I needed and no 64-bit windows support, I would use 32-bit.

I cant justify Apple beyond that, but it is just a fact of life! ;)

EDIT: as a note to your edit...
64bit Windows is a lot different than 64bit OS X
Leopard runs 32bit apps natively, Apple made it easy for developers,
M$ didn't,

This has nothing to do with my point at all.

You can't just flip a switch and get it working however you want.

And regardless of the zune comparison, all major OSs now are 64bit and run on 64bit processors. Including the ones from Apple and Microsoft. So if it was really this insignificant...

After using it and realizing how "broken" it is, with no true push support (IMAP-IDLE, Yahoo uses a special "iPhone" only method), no background chat program, lousy voice+data plan from at&t, and lousy service where I am at, isn't worth 600 + 80/mo.

I really look forward towards revision 2, hoping they will fix the plethora of problems that are in the iPhone.

I needed true push support, background aim app that is run off data, 3g speeds, be able to watch flash, have music (2gig is enough for me), and make a call, all at the same time.

Plus the fact that Apple doesn't support 64 bit OS with iTunes is just laziness. Isn't Leopard suppose to be 64 bit? lol..

apple. I should of known.

I was just going to call you up and ask you if you were keeping the phone. Thanks for saving me from using up some of my massive store of Cingular/AT&T Rollover minutes.

By the way, push mail is dumb. Anyone who needs their mail pushed to them instantly is doing something inherently wrong.

how is push email unreasonable? Is it better to let the phone check every 15 minutes? I'd rather take advantage of imap features and have the server either notify (which would be imap idle) or push the email to my phone, particularly if I'm waiting for a reply or something.

Could you ever sync your iPod (just curious)?
if indeed you are a use of 64-bit windows then incompatibility is NOTHING new for you.

My iPod syncs fine in 64-bit Vista. The only thing I can't do in 64-Bit Vista right now is sync my iPhone. Everything else works.

WHY does everyone who is taking their phones back feel the need to come and announce triumphantly that they are taking their phones back?

There should just be one thread for "I AM TAKING MY IPHONE BACK" where all the whiners can put there reasons.

Waaaaah, EDGE is too slow, waaaaaah, there's no push, waaaaaah, I hate AT&T's service waaaaaah, waaaaah, waaaaah...

And then one person could just continually post "This was all known before the release" over and over and OVER again.

Really, it would save a lot of bandwidth.

I didn't say it is unreasonable, it is wholly unnecessary. Nobody needs to know the second an e-mail comes in. Believing you do means you don't even understand how e-mail works. Do you know it could take 24-48 hours for an e-mail to get from one server to another in some circumstances?

I was just prodding him a bit. People act like push mail is some kind of necessity, and it simply is not. In fact I would question the practical use and efficiency of anyone's time if they required push mail to do their job effectively.

I understand why YOU want push mail, and it is not unreasonable. However, some people act like it is the end of the world if mail is not interrupting them as fast as possible.

Why does everyone always give in? The OP obviously posted this thread to get attention. Big deal, return your iPhone. It's your loss. Enjoy your WAP Internet and clumsy OS.

Exactly! WTF is the big deal? I'm unhappy with stuff I buy all the time but I don't go whining on the internet about it like a 4 year old toddler. Just go return your stuff. THE END.

let me just restate my position on the 64-bit matter (since I think you are a bit confused)...
If microsoft isn't even going to support it's own 64-bit OS, then what incentive does that give apple? Im sure Apple is working on iTunes for 64-bit windows, and just because it wasn't there on launch is nothing new for users of 64-bit windows!
[/point]

Then the original poster went on to say
Isn't Leopard suppose to be 64 bit?
his point is entirely irrelevant. (more evidence that he was just trolling) which is why I pointed out that iTunes as it is works on leopard, even running in a 64-bit environment.

What's the big deal with push email anyway? My iPhone checks all 7 of my email accounts every 5 minutes. That's a short enough leash for this dog.

...Nobody needs to know the second an e-mail comes in....Do you know it could take 24-48 hours for an e-mail to get from one server to another in some circumstances?...
I'm aware of possible delivery time lag, but that doesn't mean that all email takes 24-48 hours. Just saying.

I don't actually care much for email and would vastly prefer pretty much any other option to it, but I'm sure there are people out there who do want email or even push email.

Wow... All the mis information here from little kids who just jumped on the computer yesterday.

1) IT was Windows, not Apple who launched 64 bit support. With good reason to do so. Win XP 64bit is based off the Win2000 server code, which to most IT out there is one of the best stable code blocks to be running an OS from.

2) Push EMAIL is a NECESSITY. IF you work at mcdonalds, which you probably do, maybe it won't be for you. But for corporate work, it very much is.

3) What are you talking about 64 bit not having support? Maybe in 2005, but it's 2007. Video card, sound card, mobo, etc all have 64 bit support, but Apple the "BREAKTHROUGH" people do not?

Come on.

lol.

64-bit support is not only on the driver side, it's also on the application side. Many games on PCs, for example, simply will not run on a 64-bit WinXP.

And even if they do, running them on a 64-bit OS is unsupported.

Mis information at its best.

Which games do not run on 64 bit os?

This is besides the point. Have fun everyone, I won't be missing the crowd.

Many, particularly ones from a video game publisher I work for heh.

Like what?

CS Source, WOW, Half Life 2 (any steam engine), Crysis, Halo 2, Battlefield 2, etc run on 64 bit.

Again, what is with Apple people and misinformation? I don't mind selling your product, but don't LIE to the people!

LMFAO! EnderTW everyone who has ever ran 64-bit windows knows that there are a ton of compatibility issues, This just makes it more obvious that you.
1. dont know what you're talking about
2. are a troll!

Misinformation at its best.

Instead of attacking the problem you apple fans love to dodge the issue and call people trolls.

Again, I do run 64 bit windows, and everything I have ever needed has 64 bit support.

Games
Multimedia
Firewall
Studio Support

etc.

This isn't about 64 bit though, this is about the iPhone's inherent problems.

lol

And I want angels sing and wake me up in the morning, have bizilion Euros at bank and look like Brad Pitt but thats just life.. For once be happy with what you can have and enjoy your damn iPhone!

:D I love it.

Do you. It was known that the iPhone didn't have many of those features. I see it as a toy with a phone, and I am a beta tester. I therefore am so very happy with my iPhone. My Pocket PC phone had much greater functionality. I could use Slingbox on it, for goodness sake. So screw YouTube when I can watch my OWN DVR or DVDs to go. However, I have ditched that phone and am happier with the iPhone for other reasons. I can't imagine going back to my HTC phone so that I can surf on a crappy screen, faster? But live and be happy. Like you said, other versions will be out that meet your expectations.
