LOL who keeps them for 3 years I update them every 8-12 months :)

I expect to keep it for 5 years or something, the laptop part will always be there, if I need better performance I can get a desktop.

I'd say 3 years is the sweet spot. Looking back 3 years, the computer you bought in 2004 is still quite usable. It's easier to sell them too and you can get a higher price. For example, G4/G5 machines sell a lot better than G3s. Computer depreciates faster as time goes on. I think aliquis' idea is a pretty good one too. Get the desktop for power and keep the laptop to serf internet on the bed. Personally, I don't like having multiple computers, and want a powerful, portable computer with me at all times if possible, but for people that just uses their laptop to do light work it's pretty awesome.

Hi guys

I have made up my choice! I will buy the 2.2 GHz model next week. Thanks for you replies. Like I said my music is the main thing and I will give up gaming anytime in favor for the music -if it would ever come to that!

I understand that I can still play games with the 128 GPU and I do not demand a lot from the graphics. I have fould a pair of excellent monitors (audio) that I want for my home studio and that's a lot more meaningful than getting the slightly improved specs of the larger model MBP.

I'll probably write here again when I have received that wonderous machine.

See you

You won't be sorry. I use my 2.2 MBP for everything, including games under Windows XP (bootcamp). The video card is recognized as having 512MB and works great with C&C3, Company of Heroes, AOE3, LOTR & BFME2.

I truly love the new MBP and do not miss the my former MB CD 2.0.

Cheers,

Yeah, I guess I'll keep the 2.2 order and have that one coming aswell, since I can't say the update is worth the price, I guess I might sell it and get a new lowend MBP once they release something with a decent amount of vram.

If you don't run the largest texture sizes and also turn of AA and AF the 2.2GHz version might not be much slower for games. Maybe in 1440x900 or higher if you use an external screen. What I worries a little about is my desktop app using the 64MB vram for the external screen, but well, the setup of modells are so retarded and I don't wanna fall into their tricks :(

Good luck with your purchase, and your phones, what where they? I spent some time at head-fi earlier aswell and ended up getting a pair of Alessandro MS-1, bought I would think it would be cool to get a pair of Beyer Dynamic DT770/880 aswell =P

I will listen for weird noices on my MBP.

The good thing for me is that because 256MB vram where put to most use in Windows now I might stay true OS X only and not game that much at all, which is nice since I don't have to install that **** ;/

Thought I do like to try c&c3, coh, supreme commander, hf2 (haven't played it) and so on ;/

Hi Aliquis

Phones? No, Monitors

I found these Adam A7 which sound really great. I found that they sound natural and precise i.e. minimal coloration of the sound. I have been making music and mixing (non pro) for several years now on a couple of cheap Sony speakers so it's going to be really exiting switching to the Adams. They also got excellent reviews and many awards.
