Is anyone else thinking of trying to get Apple to replace there Rev1 Core Duo Macbook Pro with a C2D because of all the issues.

I intened to take mine back as soon as they are available in the store. I have a distotred right speaker and it is still too haot for my lap, even though it has been away for repair and they replaced most of the parts.

I have read reports that say the new version is a lot cooler.

I have had 5 Rev1 MBP's and they have all had various issues. The last time I accepted the replacement the guy in the store said I could replace it with a new one if they were replaced soon, but that was about 3 months ago.

I got the original in May but have had 5 replacement since then because of faults.

The 5th develped the mooing fan and the screen buz fault. I sent it away for a fix because I could not be bothered to return it again. When it cam back the issues were resolved but they had not seated the keyboard properly so I had to take it to the apple store to get them to reseat it again. Then about 2 weeks after that it developed the distorted right hand speaker. But I decided there was no point returning it then as I would only get another faulty machine.

Well I tried but they said they would only repair it and that there was a waiting list of 2 weeks on repairs at the moment.

I was told that I could have had a replacement Rev A but they did not have any in stock and would not be getting any (not much help). I said I did not want a repair as my experience so far has led me to have no confidence in this Rev.

I was told to write a complaint letter to the manager.

After writing my letter to the Store Manager I noticed that this is currently my 6th faulty machine! Although to be fair 2 were replaced straight away in the store as I had checked them before leaving.

I had a noise and heat problem with the older CD MBP as well and didn't want to deal with it. So I returned it last Sunday, pay 10% for the restocking fee, wait for a week and get a new C2D MBP on Friday. After using it for a while, i realize that it was such a good decision. The new MBP runs much cooler and quieter. I notice that the rear ventilation has been redesigned. It is now a much better computer as to speak.

If you really feel bothered by the temperature and noise, find a way to get a new one. It's pretty well worth it. I was willing to pay additional $200 just to have a perfect computer and I'm really happy with it.

LOL - I was thinking along these lines. It sounds like someone who is looking for problems. Honestly, if you are brave enough to buy a rev a of anything from Apple, then be prepared to live with those problems. These people who have to have the latest and greatest, and look for excuses to fill that need should really seek some help - I'm not saying that to be rude, I'm completely serious. This guy has a problem. I bet his last laptop was barely a year old when he got his MacBook.

My CD MBP was bought slightly before the C2D version came out, and they let me return it for a C2D. My CD MacBook Pro got pretty damned hot (not as hot as some people have said), and I'm telling you, this C2D MacBook Pro is not hot at all (my old Compaq is hotter).

Your right, good point. I think I'll just put up with this dodgy speaker, so what if DVD's and Itunes sound terrible over the external speakers, maybe I'll just use headphones. After all I wouldn't want to upset poor old 30% hardware sales rise Apple, I do owe them so much loyalty what with this being my 1st machine (well 6th including the returned faulty ones, but who's counting). It's great to have people like yourself to restore reality in this world, thanks. Tim:D

C2D and CD Power Dissipation

C2D and CD has the same power consumption. So the C2D won't be cooler if the fans are not working harder.

Noone should have to buy any cooling apparatus! If we 'needed' these things they should be sold by Apple with every machine. It would be like purchasing a fridge - and for order for it to work properly we would need to install a 3rd party platform on the bottom to keep the machine working as it should. Just makes no sense to me.

I think different people treat their stuff differently. Do you throw your MacBook on a table or to you set it down gently? Do you use it in the bathroom? In the bed stuck between pillows to keep it nice and warm? That _could_ make the difference between six MBPs and one. How do you remove the power connector? That can make a difference. Some people just break things.

I don't think it has anything to do with the way I treat them. I decided I wanted a Macbook Pro because I live in a tiny overpriced London flat and do not have any space for a powerfull desktop PC. The only time the MBP has left my living room is when I have had to send it to Apple. 2 of the 6 machines were replaced straight away by apple when I unboxed them in the store before taking them home. I had decided to do this because of the quality issues I had experienced so far, I think this is a fairly good indication of Apples poor QC. In fact the store manager was so embarrased the the second time that she very generously gave me a further 10% discount.

QC on Apples part is dodgy with Rev A's, but the new ones from whats being said have no major issues at all. So thats a good sign.

Have you tried asking/telling Apple you dont like the product and the issues youve had with it and would like a refund? They may change their minds after that.

Then, if they do refund you, go out and buy a C2D. Just dont tell them that ;)

In their opinion its hot however to another person it wont be. If a notebook is too hot for them then they should buy a cooling pad.
