Are you returning your Xs/Xs Max for the Xr?

Can we talk about depreciation here for a second... personally I think the XS Max is a better phone overall but not worth the extra 450. However, most of us have bought it/will buy it outright and if you plan on selling it before the event next year (or maybe just after) which one do you reckon will depreciate more? I think if you’re making an investment which this phone is, that has to be a consideration. Would be interested to hear what people think...

You’ll get more for the max next year but I think the Xr will hold its value better in relation to its starting price. I think you might be able to get about £450 got the Xr next year which in relation to its starting price isn’t such a big drop.

My X cost me £1,150 last year and when I sold it last month I got £560 for it.

That’s interesting... doing the math it looks like within the first year depreciation is around 40-45% on iPhones - the X was the best yet... the XR could be next. But i think that’s the only way to ‘beat’ the system, upgrade every year then you won’t be out of pocket.

The max still has a better battery life than the Xr.

Yes but not as good as the 8+ ... if that's the most important thing.

My XS doesn't have quite the battery life of my 7+ for that matter. I'm quite ok with it.

Again, I would have bough the XR were it not for pinch-zoom. Touching the dot and sliding R/L to frame a shot is so much nicer (and the only way I can do it, of course). Why Apple didn't bring that to the single lens phones mystifies me — it doesn't have to switch between the 2 lenses to work as I like it.

Really? That's not what I've seen . . . for instance:
"Based on those estimates and capacities, the iPhone XR is the clear leader, but all three should get you through a full day of use. In our review, we found the iPhone XS Max lasted about an hour longer than the iPhone XS, but obviously, that depends on usage."

And this: Test shows iPhone XR has even better battery life than the iPhone XS Max and Pixel 3 XL

Would have a hard time putting a case on this XR. Looks so good. Feels great. Back is good and tacky for grip in-hand. The more I use it the more I really like it.. for me, it is still determining if it is more bulk than I want.

Random note.. when you move your app icons they are CRAZY sensitive on the XR.

Interesting. But I think this guy's test is an outlier. Every other review/battery test I've seen indicates the XR will last significantly longer than the XS Max. For example, here's one from Tom's Guide: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-xr-battery-life,news-28357.html. There are plenty of others saying the same thing.

And that result makes sense...the battery capacities are (relatively) similar, but the XR's screen should consume considerably less energy. It's smaller, and doesn't have anywhere near as many pixels to power.

So after owning a Xs Max I have decided that I am going to return it and wait for the Xr.

The reasons why you might ask...

I can think of 6 great reasons.

1. PWM sensitivity
2. Blue shift
3. Image persistence/retention
4. Battery efficiency
5. Reception issues
6. Saving $

Just wondering who else is following suit?

Image persistence/Retention?

Since when ???
