Someone mentioned "the obvious upgrades will be Penryn and Montevina." Isn't Montevina the mobile derivative of Penryn, or is there some other mobile Penryn that I'm unaware of?

No, Montevina is not the mobile derivative of Penryn. Montevina is like Santa Rosa, a chipset. Penryn is like Yonah, a processor.

As they stand, an iMac loaded with memory will keep you going for a very long time. If you need something with serious grunt, go for the Mac Pro.

What you said is basically always true, and I agree that the current iMac is great (short of the odd freezing). However, if you don't need a new computer today because the one you own suits your needs, why should you buy today's computer? If the computer that suits your needs is nearing the end of its useful life, why shouldn't you discuss what may be available next? I think the discussion here is just smart shopping.
