That mock-up looks AWESOME! I'd certainly be very tempted to go intel if something like that appeared. The chin is what deters me from the current iMac.

Nice mock-up! I hope Apple does do something like this. I really want an iMac that looks exactly like the Apple Cinema Display. I'd be tempted to reduce the border a bit more.

Just get rid of the built-in speakers. I can't believe that Apple has done away with so many legacy connectors but continues to insist upon putting tiny tinny speakers inside each computer. If they really must do that, at least look at the tiny high-performance speakers that the mobile 'phone companies now use.

Regarding various comments about the thickness of the iMac - the display technology used in the current iMacs produces a fair bit of heat. By using an alternative backlight technology (perhaps OLED or EL), the backlight layer could be almost paper thin and would run cool. Some other ways of making the iMac thinner were presented in this thread

What I want is for them to white-out the camera when it's off via a tiny electrochromic window - i.e., when the camera is off, the iSight is invisibly hidden amongst the rest of the white border. When it's turned on, poof, and there it is as the tiny square becomes transparent.

That would be sweet! You should suggest it via the feedback facility on their website.

A hole in the front of the iMac? You're kidding, right?

It would have a proximity sensor which would automatically open a sliding cover when a suitable USB device is near.
