Revert to the previous notes

I did the typical bad decision of upgrading my machine and iOS devices to the public betas. The main reason was because I wanted to use El Capitan. And, El Capitan actually seems stable enough to work on, so I will not restore that. But iOS 9 has too many bugs and problems so I want to revert. But, Since I've been stupid enough to upgrade notes to the new notes I will not be able to access them from my iphoneand mac if I downgrade to iOS 8.4. But I saw when I opened notes for the first time in El Capitan that I could use it with the old notes features. But, now that Ive upgraded how to I change the Notes inside El Capitan to the old notes system? ANyone knows ? ...I dont care if I loose my notes just want to be able to sync and read on all devices.

But still would love to know how to downgrade El capitan notes to use the 8.3 iOS notes instead of the new ones.

Well, first of all, you can't downgrade OS X El Cap's Notes app. It comes pre-installed.. If you want the old one. You have to downgrade...

I don't mean downgrade the app itself. But on the first startup it offers you to stay with the old "simple" notes instead of new advanced notes until you are ready to convert on all your devices. It would be good to have that option after you passed this screen. But anyway I'm reverting el capitan as well. Despite it being an awesome update I will wait for the launch version. It's too risky working on a beta on the main working machine.

Plus, iCloud site notes have already been upgraded to support latest version of notes app on iOS 9, el capitan, as well as those new features, so it should be comfortable for you to access even new notes from the cloud.

Umm, I only test existing notes, but not new one. The new one I create contains sketches and checklist, which is of course not backward compatible.

You can access your new notes from www.icloud.com, and copy necessary information outside your notes to somewhere else.

Think of it as now having two Notes containers; one accessible by the new Notes app (which you can access from iOS9 and OSX 10.11) and one the old Notes. Once you elect to use the new Notes, that container is created as a copy of the old Notes data as a one-time process.

If you downgrade or use a non-upgraded device, then those will access the old Notes which will be just as you left it when selecting to create the new Notes. So, you'll need to take a copy of the updates (either from your machine before you restore 10.10, or from icloud.com) and manually paste them back in to old Notes.

I might not have worded this in the clearest way but hopefully it makes sense.

According to a previous post, you could try to manually copy notes from el capitan to somewhere and paste them back to your old notes app. This is not a so direct approach but I think it might work.

In addition, I am afraid Apple won't let you to downgrade the notes.

seems there should be a warning that the 'new' notes option will ONLY sync with ios9...and there should be a path to revert to 'simple' notes. did this before backup, so...not sure how to get back to simple.

There IS a warning message showing new notes would only be synced with iOS 9 and el capitan before upgrading.

But there is no obvious way to downgrade back during this beta testing period. And iCloud notes app has also been updated for new notes. Maybe simply because I didn't know that.

in which case, i missed it. i really did not see anything warning me that i needed ios9 to use the new notes. meanwhile, will continue to investigate...there must be a way to go back to the 'simple notes' app.

So you end up with giving up seeking for downgrad, but upgrade your system.

the new app is fine, i just wasn't urgently needing new features, but needed my data synced! will def explore the new features tho, now that i'm on ios9 as well...

When El Capitan finally gets officially released my notes app will probably make another duplicate of all my notes and move them to the new notes system. I cant say Apple did a elegant solution on this stuff. You get the option to upgrade but theres no way to get back to the old notes again without downgrading the OS. Though to be honest a lot of what Apple has done lately is very un-elegant. Music app is messy and without much explaining of the features, getting all the devices to forward sms and phonecalls etc is troublesome..maps is inaccurate...etc etc... Once you get it all up and running its of course nice, but it doesnt feel like its made by a company behind the slogan "it just works".

i dunno, am (so far) liking ios9 a lot, and no issues (yet). and 10.11 also doing well here (a few issues of course). am not regretting anything...yet...
