I had the one that’s desk-mounted before. The arm is not very “swivelly” if that makes sense. I eventually gave it away since I didn’t like using it.

The first time you try using it, your iPad will prompt you about it being attached to a keyboard and to approve it.

I had to return the adjustable arm charging version. “Stiff” is an understatement. Attempting to move it would move my entire desk instead. If you are looking for a two hand workout to move it a couple inches, this one is for you. The magnetic charging base is also hard edged metal, nothing soft like the apple accessories, I was very hesitant to mount my iPad directly to it.

They have similar vesa swingarms for around $30 (AMAZON), that are tension adjustable, and even come with a separate adhesive vesa adapter (for the non-vesa). These are for small monitors, and tablets. Of course the tablets don't have vesa, so you need either an adhesive or magnet.

They absolutely need to be tension adjustable, obviously, and the one in this thread is probably, just not clear about it, or maybe not. What really worries me about the ones in the article, is scratching the iPad. I wouldn't risk that. The magnetic properties might leave out padding with these, going by some Amazon reviews. Again, maybe not.

The stand is a very good one. Planning to get a Mac mini and this stand so that I can use my iPad Pro along with the mini as a portable display using the Orion app.

Fail. You designed stands and arms that provide charging without integrating the power into the device. So now you have to have a cable plug into their power port on the back of the stand or arm and snake down to a power source.
oh, that's not the purpose, it's made for leaving the iPad only USB-C port available for extension while charging your ipad

The biggest problem with these is that they are designed to be specific to a single iPad model. If you were to switch from an 11" to a 13" or if Apple were to change the size of the camera assembly, etc., your $100 stand would head to a landfill. Beyond that, it seems lazy to not consider cable management in the overall design. I love the idea of a magnetic charging stand for iPad, but this doesn't seem entirely baked.
The apple is partly to blame, just like you will have to change the magic keyboard size if you make the same switch lol. fyi, the new m4 ipad pros have different magnet alignments from the previous ipad pros so you will also have to change the magic keyboard if you make the switch:(

I can easily think of solutions that would account for the different magnetic alignments and pin locations. I'm guessing this manufacturer could as well, but chose not to in order to sell more product.

Shame on Apple for not realizing the full potential of this feature. It feels like they didn’t think it through enough. The iPad could have so many more use cases than just a keyboard with charging:
  • Keyboard + charging
  • Stand + charging
  • Stand + charging + speakers
Even Google nailed it better with their Pixel Tablet Dock:
