Hey guys,

Bit of an update.

So I saw an absolute steal of a Ricoh GR going for cheap on Ebay with a viewfinder and case so I had to jump on it!

Loving it so far. Exactly what I wanted. Something I can whack in my pocket and pull out only when I see something I want to capture.

Couple of examples from the first weekend out with it.

Told you!

Are you using the viewfinder?

Not so far. Probably might only hold it for more 'shooting' scenarios or bright light. Bit of a fun novelty really I think.

What aspect are you interested in?

I wanted something that fit in between my 6D+35mm and my iPhone. As far as I can see at the moment this is it.

Still taking a bit of time to get used to the controls but it is really nice having something decent in my pocket at all times.

Generally speaking, really.

Generally speaking, really.

Generally it's great!

The controls are a little fiddly but I can see myself getting used to them. Some of the case is getting used to the fact that the centre button of the d pad is not an 'okay' button!

The flash is great which was my first big worry.

I'm not really a street photog. But something I can imagine you finding useful is tha snap mode whereby you can preset focus and then taking shots is very quick and discrete.

Sharpness is top notch! Very minimal distortion which I assume is corrected in camera.

Low light is good and like most cameras it's more about getting the right ISO rather than shooting at lower ISOs.

The only two issues that have come up for me is getting exposure right (shots are coming in darker than in camera) and the effects applied in camera to the raw I can't seem to replicate in LR5 with any presets and can't seem to find anything else online.

I see I'm a hair bit late to this discussion, but I recently jumped on the X100T bandwagon (to complement my 6D, which now gets used mostly for my serious landscapey shoots).
I have to agree that the size of the X100T is not for carrying in your pant pockets, etc.
To me, I find the excellent IQ and color rendering of the Fujis, added to the manual knobs (I hate fiddly menus) for most of what I need to be an acceptable tradeoff on size. I don't mind slinging a small backpack or carrybag with me when I leave the house, so it works out great.

In any case, looks like you're enjoying that Ricoh! I can say this, either Ricoh or Fuji, there's something very liberating about these smaller, fixed lens, cameras. I find myself fiddling a lot less (whereas with my 6D, well, I often end up carrying 2-3 lenses with me and wasting a bunch of time fiddling) and enjoying the photomaking experience more. And in the end, that's what counts the most to me.

I have the Nikon Coolpix A and I love it for what it is. This image was taken with it.

The Ricoh GR is identical and maybe even better because it has a ND filter. My Nikon Coolpix A has a lot of dust on the sensor so I'm trying to get it exchanged. Other than that it's excellent... It's so light I don't even feel it around my neck. I've used the Fuji x100 series cameras and I've had the Fuji XT-I for a bit too. If you shoot people get the Fuji, if you shoot landscapes no question go with the Ricoh or Nikon.

I pack an RX100 mkIII as my carry everywhere camera. Not as good obviously as my A7 with Leica glass (yes all the gear no idea) but I enjoy having it ready to go if I spot something.

I too am looking at a refurb x100s or a ricoh gr.
The gr at the moment is retailing at £400 so will probably go with that as I've had a x100s in the past, cracking camera but fancy something different.
Like the idea of snap focus and auto nd filter.
A little put off with the shutter speed max of 1/2000 when shooting at f2.8, however in the real world this may not make a to big of a deal breaker.
Just need to go play with one in the shop before pressing that buy button.
Only really take picture of my girls n got a bit bored of just taking portrait type pics, fancy a bit of documentary instead.
