With the "nvm" at the end of your post, I would assume that you found out on your own that putting two fingers on the trackpad and moving them around executes the middle button feature. :)

no, no. when you "click" the middle button (or scroll), or on PC laptops left+right click together, you can close a tab or open a link in a new background tab. :)

and ive recently discovered that parallels desktop's right click only works with double finger tapping. ctrl+click doesnt work somehow.

haha one of the most ignorant statements against Macs is clearly "no right click", because we've mentioned about 20 ways to do so here :D
I was a Mac user for about 3years before knowing about any of them.

And you never once just tried something? Or you know, asked somebody if they knew? ignorance is not a defense...
... no really, try it... TRY IT ALREADY!...
I wasn't using ignorance as a defense, just stating a fact... I know, I know it's a character flaw of mine, but I'm a fan of facts; like the fact that the 'about' 20ways jnc mentioned is actually just 3ways, and that 2 of those 3ways weren't available on the Mac when I started using it.

That it took me 3years to 'learn' about ctrl+click wasn't down to any inability or unwillingness to try stuff, just not having a need as I was using a MS mouse that had a right click and was supported by OSX, even though they didn't feel the need to make the function available on their own product.

I don't mind trying stuff, but Apple always used to claim their OS was easier to use and more intuitive than their rival, and in this case it is not. Keyboard and mouse navigation remains superior in MS Windows at the default settings than in OSX IMHO.

Read up through the thread a bit and you will see that i mentioned that generally it is apple+click that yields a middle click.

I know that shortcut, but I consider it a poor substitute as it then requires two hands. I have my laptop directly off to the side of my work computer, and type type type away on my work computer while occasionally clicking on a link here or there on my laptop. Having to rotate my whole body over to reach with both arms would be very irritating - I wish Apple would just add a damn two button trackpad (would that REALLY be so bad to the long time Apple fans?) :(

I guess I should go the external bluetooth...

I really want to use trackpad tapping, but every time I enable it, I'm highlighting and opening all over hell's half acre with just a light touch. What's the trick?

You don't need both hands to command click. There is a command key on both sides of the keyboard. I use my right little finger to hold command and then click or tap the track pad with my right index finger. Only one hand needed but you need to be very dexterous. You can do the same with the left hand if you are left handed.
