I contacted the eBay seller about the adhesive tape and he confirmed that is original. Exactly the same with the one on an iMac. He also told me that the adhesive tapes are supplied by Apple, but I don't know if this is true...

Probably not true. But I'll still buy one later this year anyways. I"m just saving up for my samsung ssd.

People do realize Apple now offers 256 and 512 Gb SSD options, would you still rather rip open your new iMac just to save a few dollar?

Personally I ordered the top 27" with all the upgrade including Fusion Dec 1st, Fusion is a godsend most of the speed of SSD at a fraction of the cost for the 1.1Tb size I now have.

Again, it has been stated multiple times in this thread that OWC blade SSDs do not work in 2012 iMacs.

Did You test it ? Why OWC doesn't work with iMac but work in MacBook Pro Retina ?
Thank You in advance for Your answer.

How many time do we have to tell you? It's been reported in THIS THREAD, multiple time, by many people, that the 2012 iMac won't even boot with one installed.

Now they added more options. Apart from that a flash drive is not close to an OCZ Vector and a 840 Pro if the criteria is speed. And unfortunately in my job this is one of the most important things. In the USA the 256GB flash drive for 300$ is fair price. But in other countries like Greece where I live is not. My iMac with i7 and 680mx costs 2800 euros. The VAT here is 23%. For example the GTX 680MX upgrade in the USA costs 150$... very good... A little overrated but good. Here costs 220 euros! It's almost double the money if you keep in mind the currency between euros and dollars... The 300$ for the 256 Flash here probably will cost about 500 euros. Maybe more... In the same price I buy from amazon.co.uk an 512GB 840 pro, the adhesive tape and also keep some money for the 16GB ram upgrade. Now do you realize that it's not just a few dollars? Another example... The basic iMac with the 675mx in the USA costs 1999$... Here costs. 2300 euros and only if you pay in cash. Unfortunately the price difference is huge...

I think Apple has done a good job to address the shortfalls of the 2012 iMac with new options like new SSDs and the VESA mounting option. For most users there are enough options, but I guess you can't please everyone with every option.

Yes the prices could be better and maybe dealers should have the option to replace HDDs with customer specific SSDs for those who can't do the work them selves.

Probably my choice too... Thank you so much for posting this. Have you tried to upgrade the firmware? You can upgrade it from the iMac, right?

The 3,5" adapter from the package fitted right in the iMac? How is the fan speed? I read on a Greek forum (for 2009-2011 model) that after replacing the HDD with an SSD they must
short-circuit the temperature sensor for HDD because it didn't fit on the SSD. Otherwise the fan loud was horrible. Is this necessary to be done on the 2012 model?

The truth that I have not had time to update the disk has. As you update it reported.

It is installed with the adapter includes:

As for the fan speed, any kind of problem. Everything works as before with less noise to be SSD.

In the future I want to buy the adapter bladessd to put 3 or 4 TB.

Thank you for the useful informations. Yes I'm thinking the same thing for the future. But probably after the warranty expires... Until then I'll put the Vector and buy a 2tb WD my passport... There is one thing I didn't understand about that SSD blade adapter... The HDD will take power direct with the stock cable? From where the SSD will take power? The adapter as I can see has only a sata port...
Oh, I forgot to mention? Where did you bought the adhesive tape? If you want post a link...

Energy imagine her out of the main disk, as the bladessd uses little energy. A connector Y.

Here I leave the link so two adhesives:

Whatever the reason for delay, the 256 & 512 options at lease make the drive line up a little more sane.

Love the spirit of this thread! We were all stunned with the arrogance of Apple's 1300 offering. Reducing it to 900 didn't heal anyone's opinion ;)

Haha... Exactly.... You couldn't be more right... And keep in mind it's for flash storage, not even SSD...

I contacted with them and I wait for their reply about this question. As soon they will contact I'll post back...

What are you talking about? Of course it's an SSD, just in the Apple "blade" format.

It's flash disk that usually referred as SSD. But in fact it's not exactly the same technology. They have not the same speed. They both are fast thought... See benchmarks and you will see...

Err, what?

Apple's blade SSD is an SSD, although all SSD drives are flash storage drives, you are trying to make the distinction that Apple's offering is akin to the sort of low speed memory that is used in removable media cards and USB sticks...

You are very much mistaken.

Not all SSDs are going to have the same "technology" or speed.

Anyway, think what you want, Apple still use SSD whatever wording they use for it.

Anyway, maybe you're right but they Apple's SSDs are not so fast as a 840 pro and Vector and definitely at this price it's not a good upgrade.

As I mentioned yesterday, I contacted with
maxupgrades about the SSD blade adaptor and told me that with a y power connector there will be no problem. The SSDs use very small amount of power. Also I asked him about the fan speeds and temperature with one 256/512 GB SSD and a 3TB HDD and told me that they didn't see any difference using 840 pros...
Hope this helps...

I just registered in order to thank you guys a bunch for getting this thread going, and especially Zuri for his teardown video!

I literally got it done in 15 mins, with just some basic PC building experience, and I now get the expected 490/520 speeds with a 256gb 840 pro.

Cheers guys!

Hi,
any feedback is really appreciated :) glad the video helps

I am back after a while and it looks nice how this thread is going on

a proto of the apple blade <-> sata connector

Hi. I'd like to put a blade SSD in my 27" Late-2012 iMac but keep the standard 1TB hard drive in there too.

Any ideas where I can get hold of a compatible blade SSD? What exactly am I searching for? I searched for Apple Blade SSD amongst other things but can't seem to find anything.
